Bell set to play

Test cricket England
comment on the article
Bell's recovery boosts England's hopes of making a good start

England batsman Ian Bell is set to play in the first Ashes Test after testing his bruised left wrist in a lengthy net session in Brisbane on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old was doubtful after being hit by a delivery from seamer James Anderson during practice.

But unless there is an adverse reaction to his workout the in-form right-hander looks set to start on Thursday.

Irish-born Ed Joyce was standing by to make his Test debut at the Gabba but that now looks unlikely to happen.

How big an influence do you think Bell will have? How do you see the first Test going?

I agree totally with you, its a backward step, of course if he gets five wickets I'll bow before Fletchers feet, but you know what I think I am safe. It is starting to look like jobs for the boys all over again.

Graham Thorpe was replaced by KP.

The should Monty play or not due to the fact that we do not have a bowler who can bat.

Playing Giles is without doubt a safety first measure. He wont get the stick from the Ausie fans.

i think for us to win we will need a large hundred from in the first innings from one of the top 5 plus a couple of fifties as well.

The first day over and what a day of toil and trouble. The front line bowlers just weren't tight enough Freddie and the King of Spain excepted. If there is nothing in the wicket bowl tight. Just what are we going to do with Harmie? We will need a big score in our first innings so here's hoping the tail wags including Giles. sadface

Two big pluses, both Freddie and Giles bowled well, especially after coming back from injury. Harmy needs more bowling to get back his rhythm. Jimmy bowled well early on by like Hoggy was clatted later by the "in batsmen". England need to say, OK day 1 over on a good batting track, lets come out fighting tomorrow. They need to bowl in the corridor, line and length on this wicket.

Australia have a twelfth man as good to them as any of their 11 his name is Duncan Fletcher. He picks a keeper who can't catch a spinner who can't spin the ball and a captain who has no idea. This woudn't be so bad if we had no one else but we have a world class keeper a young spinner who has already proved his metal and in Strauss a man who last summer proved that he can captain England. We won the ashes last year because we were inspired and had a bit of luck we won in spite of Fletcher not because of him, all he does is play his favourites, he is at least as bad if not worse than Sven Goran Erikson and no doubt in a few years when the ashes are back in Australia and we have suffered more one day humiliation the powers that be will get rid of him.

Ok Ponting and co are racking a large total but we shouldn't be to downbeat, both sides haven't batted yet!! then we can really see how good or bad England are...I my view both sides have a steady bowling attack apart from SW!! I still think he will be the difference between the sides...and i am glad i have a very wide screen tv...would of missed the first delivery of the series otherwise.. Come on Harmy!! laugh
