Fair play or foul?

Uefa have upheld a complaint by France coach Raymond Domenech that the ball boys at Hampden did not get the ball back into play quickly enough during Scotland's 1-0 win over France. The referee also made reference to the issue in his match report on the Euro 2008 clash. Do you think Uefa's censure is fair? Where you at the game? Was time-wasting an issue or were France poor losers?

'Petty is a French word ("petit").'

Petit is small in French mate, not petty haha. smiley

I think this is just France trying to blame their poor performance on.

It is however, a situation that needs highlighting as in some cases it is very unsportsmanlike.

I do agree with the argument that if players are in a rush they should get the ball themselves. When playing on a Sunday players have to get the ball (sometimes through thorny bushes). Have modern professional footballers become too lazy in certain aspects?

Domenech was just clutching at straws. His side are beaten by Scotland and the first thing he wants to talk about is ball boys???

If it had been the other way around and Scotland had complained it would have been laughed out of court. But because its a big nation, embarrassingly Uefa sit up and listen

For christ's sake this is ridiculous. Domenech obviously isn't such a gracious loser.

At a football match, the home team has an advantage, and this includes the ball boys being on your side. Live with it, it's how it's always been. If the referee thinks they are time wasting it is his (or her, Mr Newell) job to do something about it.

I agree with RFC2006 about the fact that UEFA only listens to the big nations. If this was Macedonia vs Israel would we be discussing it at all?

As for the players being to 'lazy' to get the ball themselves, if they went over the boards to get it, they'd get surely booked for going into the crowd!

Come on people. First It is the Referee who reported the incident on his game report. Not Domenech. And Secundo; who's the twitt who said that Scotland played better then France that night and deserved the win. Obviously you did not watch the game. Scotland barely touch the ball of the whole night. France dominated the game, they just couldn't finish. HAHAHA I like you all Scottmen!!

I could understand French frustration if they had to deal with the kind of situation Scotland has faced playing away to the Faroe Islands with a couple of 4 year old ball boys to throw the ball back. But we didn't hear anything from FIFA about those games. I was at the match and I really didn't notice any delay. Usual big team moans, big team gets.

It would be nae surprise if the ref genuinely did report the ball boys seeing as the Uefa & FiFa directive is tae ensure that the big teams stay in. The game is corrupt tae the core as hus been proved time and time again. This situation only serves tae highlight as fact!

Those boards are much too close anyway. Move them back 20 yds! I'm amazed there hasn't yet been a serious injury because of them.

...Although we all know the ad revenue is a zillion times higher priority than a player breaking his neck erm

i was at the game, but TBH cant coment on the 'incident' as play was well underway by the time any of us found our seats! (infact, the full time whistle had gone!)

UEFA do everything they can to ensure the big teams go through, and with the biggest 2 in the same group, its even more important they do all they can.

scotland deserved the win, and the referee gave france the benifit of the doubt on EVERY ocasion. France had an eternity to score in injury time! (well, from the stand it felt like that!)

with the quality in the France side, they shouldnt need to rely on the ball boys for a victory, but they were cocky and paid the price!

I think the ball boys DID take their time.It may be unsporting, but UEFA and FIFA seem to allow diving and feigning injury, as just part of the game, so what' the problem. If the ball boys in France do it, there wont be half the amount of press on it.
I too was at the game. France should have won, as they were far better technically. We outplayed them tactically.
