Blackburn 1-1 Tottenham

Premiership Blackburn Rovers
comment on the article

Tugay's sensational opener at Ewood Park was not enough to earn Blackburn a first win in six as both sides ended with 10 men in a hard-fought encounter.

Tugay handed the hosts the lead with a stunning volley from 30 yards but the game came to life in the second half.

Referee Phil Dowd sent Tugay off after he had brought Hossam Ghaly down and Jermain Defoe scored from the spot.

Then, in stoppage time, Ghaly was sent off for an elbow, a decision which led to Martin Jol seeing red for arguing.

What did you make of the encounter?

Mark Hughes calls for better use of video technology and claims Ghaly slipped. Tugay clearly brought down Ghaly. Unintentional maybe but if you fling yourself across someone's path in the penalty area and you bring them down then it's a penalty. The sending off was a bit harsh though.
On the Ghaly incident the crowd reacted to what they wanted to see rather than what they did see and the ref went along with it. Bad decision.
The Mido alleged hand ball was unclear. From where the ref was he couldn't see and even the linesman's view wasnt perfect. Even on TV replays it is not entirely clear. I personally think it hit his chest and may have brushed his uppper arm on the way down. He certainly didn;t try and control the ball with his arm and there clearly wasn't any intent.

let me guess guy, you're a tottenham supporter? i wouldn't be surprised if you were, it's so obvious! The sad thing is, however, you are so far from the truth it is unbelievable. YOu sit at your computer and talk about Tottenham being innocent of all crimes, whilst Blackburn just whinge about nothing. Why don't you 'get real'? YOu know full well that Mido handled the ball, and whilst you probably should have had a penalty - a red card for Tugay? YOu've got to be joking!? Ghaly stepped on TUgay's foot and slipped, Tugay did not go in to take him out - it was a genuine challenge for the ball. And do you know what - Blackburn have a reason to be annoyed as referees have this fantastical image of the team being rough and cheaters, when really they are being discriminated against! SImply put, i believe you are a self-righteous supporter whose team can 'do no wrong'. Not that i'd hold it against you, but i would appreciate a bit of fairness to both teams - not just yours.

Mido handled the ball! clear as day! Can tottenham supporters at least be a little fair to both teams? please!? it's ridiculous that you should feel the need to justify everything that your team does - i certainly woudln't justify Gamst diving or Savage handballing.

What is worng with everyone, people are going on like Spurs are completely dire, we are not we are 8 points off 3rd place and still have everything to play for. Also Jol needs to give his other strikers games with the amount they are playing, people go on about Keane being dropped but he was useless last week against reading while defoe has scored in his last 3 starts (against some poor teams like Mk Dons and Port Vale admittedly) and mido to me looks a bigger handful and more mobile than berbatov, so why not give them a run out.

Also why are people having a go a Ghaly, he has only played a few games and looks to be a really energetic forward playing midifielder, he won us the penalty this week and last week, scored are 1st in besiktas and looks a sound investment.

Some of us spurs fans are so fickle, Jol is doing a great job we are only 2 points of teams like Liverpool and are not way off the pace for a european spot admittedly we will need to do better to get one but last season we had a good start then started to fade away, maybe this season we will start slow and end with a flurry of wins (when it really counts) and maybe even a trip to cardiff is on the cards.

Spurs are still on the right track to good things.

Yep, oneill, a Spurs supporter and proud, but not one to normally post messages on this board (unlike the old one!). I was prompted to writing after watching MoTD and seeing Hughes rubbish what was a clear penalty (it might have been a genuine challenge but the trailing leg clearly took Ghaly). You'll have noted, however, that I did say the Tugay sending off was harsh. With regard to the Mido "penalty", on first viewing it did look a nailed on penalty, but the various angles shown make this doubtful and when this is so the penalty can't be given. So, oneill, my team can do wrong but, unlike you I can take off my blue and white goggles when looking at the facts.

Spurs are at home against wigan, which you will win.

Away to arsenal which you will be played off the park, but may not lose due to arsenals ability to find the net.

Home to boro and charlton, on paper easy wins.

9 or 10 points from the next 12 could see you rise pretty sharply.

Tugay didn't even touch Ghaly, who got his just desserts with the sending off at the end, which was admittedly very harsh as well.

Ghaly dived and now is the time for the FA to deliver on its promise to stamp out diving, give the boy a 5/10 match ban and watch it divers think twice in future...

Rovers were very unlucky not to win especially as Mido clearly handballed in the area, 'unclear'...yeah right!!! Plain obvious... Yes!!!

FlyingBlueBird,

I think you need to get a HD Plasma screen becuase you are seeing everything different 90% of the other posters.

Since Zakora's dive I'm pretty sure MJ has warned the players to stay on there feet. Ghaly has dived in the past, but not since the Zakora emberassment. Give credit to MJ, he wants to win fairly.

But he dived yesterday, even Andy Gray said he did!!! Andy Gray!!!! it looked more like he stamped on Tugay and fell rather than Tugay felling him.

Most of the posters Ive read either ignored the decision (Spurs) or said it was (Blackburn).

I'd admit it if Gamst dived and I would be ashamed of him, why don't you feel the same way about someone who has just tarnished the name of your club.

Listening to the interview with Mr. Hughes after the match it would seem that his team have once again been deprived of a well deserved and comprehensive win due to yet more incompetent refereeing decisions. If we first take a look at the relative merits of the penalty incidents it is clear that the Tottenham penalty was the culmination of some slick interplay with Ghaly taking the ball in his stride and with a deft touch of the right foot taking the ball over the desperate lunge of Tugay. The use of technology that Mr. Hughes favours, such as Hawkeye, would have revealed that the ball would continue in a parabolic arc to be met perfectly by the left foot of Mr. Ghaly had he not been assaulted and allowed to continue. Of course had Mr. Ghaly’s left foot been of similar quality to the right foot belonging to Mr. Mido (as witnessed previously in the game) then Paul Robinson might have been in more danger than the Rover’s keeper. The Rover’s penalty (that wasn’t) was something that Rovers have been practicing for many hours on the training ground. First get a free kick a long way from goal. Secondly, as the kick is taken, every Rovers player runs to the nearside of the area and the ball is delivered to the now almost unpopulated far side of the area. Here you will find a certain Egyptian who will be playing windmills and hey presto!, a well deserved penalty. Unfortunately this advanced coaching did not take account of Dowdy McGoo and his assistant who missed his appointment at specsavers. The more you see the incident the more you realise that Mr. Mido thinks the best chance he has to get into the Tottenham team on a regular basis is in goal so he was actually trying to catch it. Of course he couldn’t even get that right so it hit him on the knee.
Then at the very end of the match, Michael Gray was trying to say thank you to Ghaly for not going down and rolling about for five minutes when he was fouled earlier in the game and thereby saving him a yellow card but unfortunately he got a bit too close.
Now this article is all on a par with the normal nonsense that is written by us lot and spoken by Mr. Hughes. I reckon one-all was about the right result between two average teams playing average football, in spite of Dowdy McGoo and his mates.
