Newell's controversial words

Championship Luton Town
by 606 Sport Hosts (U3702819) 11 November 2006
comment on the article

Luton manager Mike Newell caused a stir after his side's loss to QPR by saying the following about assistant referee Amy Rayner:

"She should not be here. I know that sounds sexist, but I am sexist, so I am not going to be anything other than that.

"We have a problem in this country with political correctness, and bringing women into the game is absolutely beyond belief.

"It is bad enough with the incapable referees and linesmen we have, but if you start bringing in women, you have big problems.

"This is Championship football. This is not park football, so what are women doing here? It is tokenism for the politically-correct idiots."

What do you think of Newell's comments?

That's right, before women were given the vote men were busy building an empire to exploit everybody they possibly could so they could. Hurrah for men. Hurrah hurrah hurrah.

I was at school with Michael Newell, was in the cub scouts wiyh him. He was a good lad, I won't hear a word against him. Is no one allowed to speak their mind anymore?

Not if they're spouting sexist nonsense.

sexist

adjective
1. discriminatory on the basis of sex (usually said of men's attitude toward women)

And what he said was.

Of course people can speak their minds, they always could, it's only more people speak up against out-dated, discriminatory, reactionary right-wing views these days. Isn't this a good thing?

I bet you're one of these people who bangs on about 'political correctness gone mad' a lot, whilst not really understanding quite what you're going on about.

How long did it take you to trawl through old the MBs to find this ancient thread?

If the Hope Powell story is true, how ironic football can be sometimes.

I agree fully with Mike Newell, a womens place is in the kitchen on a short chain !and not getting involved in MALE sports and workplaces.
Women are, with few exceptions, bitchy, spiteful,
greedy and stupid. Long live men!

There must be a super search function to find a thread this old thread.

It flashed up because I commented back in 2007.

This thread is as full of witty irony and dinosaur tendencies as ever.

"Long live men" - lucky right half posted.
Not for very long, with an attitude like that!
I take it you aren't married (to a woman, I mean), nor have a "meaningful" relationship with a female?
Hope Powell will be the most likely first female Football Club Manager in the League. Personally, I would like to be second, but I am aiming for a Premiership post!
