Riki Flutey's try was not enough to save London Irish from defeat

Gloucester stayed top of the Premiership thanks to their victory away to London Irish in Reading.

The visitors took a 12-0 lead after 16 minutes through James Bailey's converted try and Rory Lawson's score.

The Exiles trimmed the gap to 12-8 at half-time through a Barry Everitt penalty and Riki Flutey's try.

A penalty apiece from Everitt and Willie Walker made it 15-11 before James Simpson-Daniel went over to clinch victory for Gloucester.

Fair play to Gloucester, they were a very difficult defence to break down and were quickly back in line after the breakdown. Simpson-Daniel showed his class with every touch and made space from nowhere. Having said that, Irish clearly had the better pack in rolling mauls, pulling in more Gloucester men and still moving forward. This should have been a recipe for overlaps and tries but time and again, good ball was simply kicked away. Please Barry try and keep the ball in hand unless the garryowen really is the best option.
