Southend pulled off a massive shock to dump holders Manchester United out of the Carling Cup at Roots Hall.

The Championship strugglers progressed to the quarter-finals thanks to a stunning first-half 30-yard free-kick from top scorer Freddy Eastwood.

United winger Cristiano Ronaldo was denied by two magnificent saves from Darryl Flahavan as United attacked.

David Jones' drive crashed against the post and Wayne Rooney saw Flahavan expertly tip over his cross-shot.

What did you make of the match? How will this result affect both teams' immediate futures?

I wouldn't be surprised if Graham POLL does refer the match between Man Utd and Chelsea and Alex Ferguson would definitely see how his team will be humiliated on that day and I look forward to see how his (Ferguson) reaction will be since he is a POLL fan. Well done Southend and more giant killers to your elbow.
