The evocatively named Girondins of Bordeaux sports club was formed in 1881 with the football team created in 1920. Only moderate success including one war time CDF victory and a Ligue championship in 1950 was achieved until the 80's when Bordeaux rivalled Marseille as Frances Biggest club winning the double in 87. Past players include Dugarry, Zidane, Lizarazu, Cantona, Tigana and Marius Tresor.
