"Angry" Beckham?!?

David Beckham is apparently "angry" at being dropped by Steve McClaren.

No offence David, but you have been living in your own land of self-importance whilst the majority of England have had to put up with your poor form, especially in the World Cup.

I have to admit that, in his prime, Beckham carried the team on his shoulders and made sure the country moved forward. He'll always be remembered for his free-kick against Greece at Old Trafford in a game, England were below par, but he outshone the show.

His commitment and passion for his country is not in doubt and I take my hat off to a man that will continue to make himself available (if required) if the country calls.

However, Steve McClaren has a new generation of players to bring through and is perhaps doing the one thing that Craig Brown should have done when he was in charge of Scotland - get the young blood in. David has to recognise this and move on and get over his "anger".

No man is or should be guaranteed a place in the national squad.

David Beckham should be in the October England Squad, not an automatic starter but his experience and ability is still useful to the squad. All thats changed from sven is a dropped beckham and gerrard out right. Big decision is Lamps on bench even for one game! 6 more caps for Beckham? Well if Jenas can get in the squad anything is possible!

I feel that Mclaren dropped him on a whim, knowing that the first games in charge were easily winnable for England, and that he could afford to, simply as a way of asserting his authority. Considering the somewhat dubious quality of a number of the fringe players in the squad, to leave beckham out seems, at best petty, and at worst, stupid. And yes, his Hello hogging antics do wreck my head, and i wish his wife would , well... 'go away' is one polite phrase..., but he is and remains, a formidable talent. Who else is going to cross a ball as well?

With Lennon out injured I think it would be stupid not to have a player like beckham in the squad.

Beckham should definitely be in the squad. McClaren is in a great position because Becks wants to get to the magic 100 caps and will do anything and play anywhere to get there. So you've got a worldclass player who is willing to do anything for the team. Sounds like a no-brainer to me. And please, no one mention SWP again...the bloke isn't even playing anymore and has failed big time in his greedy ambitions. Good.

Let him be angry. But it'll be the measure of the man how he uses that anger. He can use it on the pitch and propel himself back into contention for a place in the squad, or he can use it in interviews and expect to be given a place back simply because his name is 'David Beckham'.

My guess is it'll be the latter.

Beckham just doesnt seem to have any sense of self-awareness atall does he?Why cant he just go with some dignity? He had several major tournaments to justify his ridiculously inflated reputation and im sorry to say when it came down to it on each occassion he failed miserably. The times right to move on under a new regime. Please Mr Beckham have some grace-move on yourself and concentrate on your celebrity life and let the England team become a proper football side again.

People who still advocate Beckham for England have got short memories..or are doing so on an image/lifestyle swallowed the spin choice.
England I assume want to build a better side...and not taste defeat in win-able games at major tournaments...Beckham scored some classic goals(only in qualifiers or groups.. yes Greece too! or wow! V The mighty Ecuador in an actual knock out game!!).
Beckhams record in the 'B_I_G' = BIG! games is truly awful.

V Argentina 1998 WC petulantly sent off
V Brazil 2002 WC utterly uninspiring & invisible v 10 men.
V Portugal EC 2004 utterly useless all of the above and blamed Madrid over his Fitness levels..told Posh he wanted to quit..she reminded him of the DOUGH.( I didn't even include his awful match V France.)
Portugal WC 2006 oh no not again..RUBBISH!. crying all the way to his bank account.

How could Sven & Becks that mutual financial and self promoting appreciation society put us all thru the same frustration at their obvious lack of skills and abilty at the highest Levels.

Both should have gone of course after 2002...or certainly after the Becks is more imortant than all the others tactical and positional debacle V Northern Ireland...Beckham or Sven can't motivate other players..Gerrards they are not! but Gerrard Lampard Rooney Lennon Hargreaves SWP King etc have all had their England careers stunted and messed about to accomodate The boy with the Joe Pasquale vocals. A DISGRACE which is thankfully over!!

I hope and I don't support Spurs we leave Lampard/Carrick & Gerrard where they are and replace Hargreaves with Ledley King in the holding role!...

Becks & Sven Shamelessly made commercial fortunes out of their England careers...I weep not one jot. and on the field and off it we are still paying for both of them....We now have the chance to have a team with spirit..GUTS...and our best players not having to play 2nd fiddle to over the hill boy who scored 1 freekick for England in 3 years.
Ok on the right side of midfield for Man U Beckham was superb in the prem and had one good game v Juve SF CL (followed by an Anonymous CL final)...if you miss him..buy the shirt tint the hair..buy the blades...but keep him out of EFC!...the best move Beckham made in the England Squad in the last 4 years other than the kick against Ecuador..was buying off disquited & disgruntled younger England players with Celeb parties and P Diddy...having been at his last 3 tournament flops as skipper and Global hype man...I never want to see him in an England shirt again.

You had 3 Tournaments of Beckham to walk the Talk and cometh the hour cometh the squeaky flop in each one..how small he must feel in Real Madrids changing room looking at People who have done it..a shirt seller..and his wonder goal the other night was against Barcelona???...er Nodoh

Lets just think here, at the world cup David Beckham gets a goal and 3 assists, and yet gets lambasted for his performances.

Now, if being involved in 4 out of 6 goals is a "bad" performance, then critics need their heads examining.

At the end of the day even if his general quality of play may seem "poor" he still provides the team with goals, and it doesnt matter if you perform bad if you come up with the goods thats what matters.

I think people need to look at people like Joe Cole and Frank Lampard in a harsher light. Sure Joe Cole can run at players, but he loses the ball and can't cross so at the end of the day the runs he makes are pointless. Beckham may not be able to go past players, but why would he need to? He is a midfielder not a striker, it is the strikers who need to make the runs to feed on his passes.

Lampard is a joke, sure for Chelsea where he is surrounded by loads of other players to do his dirty work he can blast shots from 30 yards or whatever and occasionally get the odd goal. We already have Gerrard so why need lampard? Putting Gerrard on the right to accomodate englands worst player at the world cup is just daft, Gerrard DRIVES the team from the middle and on the right where he is still good, he offers more in the centre.

Also another thing, Peter Crouch's record whilst looking impressive, is actually if you look at it under the magnifying glass is actually not that good. His goals have been against very sub-standard teams. It is like shoving Liverpool against Halifax Accrington Cardiff and Harrowgate Town where you would expect even your worst striker to get a couple of goals. Crouch I think is another detrimental "fad" player who had a good season then suddenly he is an automatic starter...

So yeah england need a makeover, with some outs and some ins, but one of those outs should certainly not be david beckham...

Goofy2053 you must surely understand if one player takes all the free-kicks,corners and attacking set-plays then of cause theyll have more assists than others no matter how poor the success ratio. You say the strikers "feed" off his passes. When in all the years hes played where he wants for england has he ever provided a consistent level of service from open play?

Beckham had to go to release Gerrard-a far more versatile and important player. The worlds most hyped and financially rewarded player had 3 quarter-finals to give something back for all his adulation and he performed abysmally on each occassion with his self-regarding tears at the last world cup an apt denouement. Please, lets move on from that world into a new and more productive one.
