New York has got the largest caribbean population in the world outside of the caribbean itself and many of these are from JA - this adds a lot to the vibe in the city and makes for a big scene in the Big Apple - check out Robbo's Dancehall Splurt THIS thursday and 1Xtra live this saturday for two massive shows from the city.

check www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/usa for more details.

In the meantime, we wanna know if you think that because of the huge Jamaican and Caribbean population in the city, the dancehall vibe is realer in New York than it is in the UK - what are your thoughts?

holla back!!!

The thing is that in New York Dancehall competyes against a bigger genre of music and that is Hip Hop. In the UK Dancehall is not originally from there Just like Hip Hop Is not originally fron the UK. Therefore these 2 genres of music compete on a more equal platform in the UK the in New York where Hip Hop is definitely bigger and more dorminant leading to the slower dancehall scene there.

If a Jamaican goes to New york he\she will want to get a feel of Hip Hop in its birthplace and will put Hip Hop first Dancehall later.

Feel me?
