He's dope just really clever wordplay and quite versatile not to mention some great albums. Out of the others you listed I prefer Rakim but think Jay's superior to Biggie, Pac, Cube and a lot of other rappers.

Personally i'd pick Biggie out of the bunch mentioned and put Jay Z above the rest.

It is all about taste.

I likr Kellogs Start for my breakfast.

What about you?

i would prefer biggie to Jay-z if it wasnt for the lack of matieral, its a shame, Jay-z is a legand tho cant wait for hes new album.

also to be fair to J he is paying respect to pac when he samples him, the same as when he sez a b.i.g. line hes only biggin up his brother.

Nas killed that fool lyrically, then after tht jay knew his street cred was wrecked so he starts making some popy hooks like bonnie and clyde etc coz he knew he could make a lot of money goin commercial. Thats all he is interested in, hes a sell out.
And to all these fools on here saying he betta than big and pac betta take a long hard look at themselves!

Jay Z has got to be the most Over Rated MC since Eminem, he came out copying DMX then swapped to copy NAS' flow, throughout his entire career he has 'sampled' lyrics from the biggest and the best , including Nas, he even admits that Lyrically he'd prefer to be like Talib Kweli, PLEASE!!!

Jay Z could never be better than Rakim, and its laughable to say he is better then Biggie when B.I.G wrote 50% of his lyrics

^ hahaha

Biggie did not write 50% of Jay-Z's lyrics. Jay Z skillwise is better than most, even if it ain't really my thing - he GOT skills.

Sellout? Is writing a pop hook anymore selling out than working a 9-5 for a company you don't believe in? No...Just better paid winkeye

Rakim imo is better than all mentioned, including Jay-Z. Nas has always been over-rated, Over than halftime, Illmatic is pretty boring imo.

Eminem is not over rated, he's just over hyped, (there is a difference)

Sampling a hiphop track is generally pretty lame and frowned upon, but fair play for someone in jay Z's position to say that they would rather rhyme like Talib - takes a big man to admit.

Jay Z in the early days had some insane toungue twisters!

Who came out copying DMX? Cos Jay or Em have never sounded remotely like DMX, IMO!
I think Jay-z is sick, dope voice, flow, wordplay, some sick albums(some crap) and hes got a certain style like it or not!
Not saying hes better, but I Prefer Jay to most of the mcs metioned, in fact i prefer Jay to basically anyone but:
Pun, Big l, nas, eminem, joe budden, masta ace, treach, dmx and sage francis!
To say eminem is overrated is a bit weird nowadays because those who used to rate him seem to have gone off his increasingly wack output, and anyone singing the praises of his recent music, well their opinion wouldnt hold that much weight in hip hop would it!
In his prime which is his first recordings to marshall mathers album he was THE BEST mc out, you cant deny that he is a supremely skilled mc!
Why do you think he is overrated?
He can battle, freestyle, make complete albums and makes a new flow for each song and his compound rhyming is untouchable imo!

compound rhyming isn't particularly difficult though - Eminem still wasn't the best. Why? Because there is no such thing as THE best emcee.

Compound rhyming is something i greatly appreciate, and to do it well without it seeming forced is a skill!
As for the best thing, well i cant be bothered to put 'IMO' after everything i post so just assume i do unless stated, but i get your point!

Lefty - what has sellout got to do with anything I said?
Your definition of a sellout would apply to 90% of the workforce in the UK, who works for a company they believe in? A jobs, a jobs.

Eminem is overrated because he was hailed as the best rapper in the world when he came out, the saviour of hip hop, so innovative so creative so the same old shi on every album...

Jay Z and eminem have basic skills, nothing special, they just got lucky. both of them.

The sellout point was to dude above you.

Not a case of luck really, Eminem had put out loads of independent stuff before he even got signed, and also mastered the battle scene (although to me, that isn't that impressive) but dont think anything other than hard work got them both where they are. Also, their flows are both instantly distinguishable and Eminem brought some much needed humour back into Hiphop - although I think Thirstin Howl III is still the funniest emcee.

Hailed by who? The media? hahaha, do you pay that much attention to the who the media are bigging up?

Slim Shady L.P was creative and innovative, aftger that he became a parody of himself, but that album was groundbreaking!!!

It really isn't about luck, the mans worked damn hard
