Does the way you speak change people's perception of you?

You say tomato..

Do you fancy a larrap, enjoy a chin wag, prefer a good natter or want to chew the fat? VOICES is the largest ever celebration of the way the people of the British Isles speak today. From Aberdeen to Ashburton, there is a rich range of words to describe the simplest of things.

We want you to share your thoughts on the way we talk in Devon.

We're launching a project all about language, accents and dialects across the British Isles and want you to share your thoughts on the way we talk across the county.

Never mind the difference in dialect from Scotland to Ireland, England to Wales - here in Devon we know the meaning of words change from north to south and east to west of the county.

Venture a little further afield, just across the Tamar bridge say, and it's all change yet again.

Tell us about how you speak!

Nationally, the BBC will be comparing and contrasting the sounds of the nation. Here on the BBC Devon website we'll be concentrating on our own little piece of England.

You can help by telling us about your favourite words and colloquialisms. We've a message board where you can swap thoughts with other users, local Devon dialect expert John Germon offers you some tuition in the art of speaking 'like wot we duz' and there's a quiz you can play to test your knowledge of words used.

Voices is the biggest-ever survey of how we speak. From January 2005, you can take part and add your voice to the picture.

Just click on the big pink 'Voices' image on the right to be taken to the national site and take part in the survey.
