North Devon photographer Alice Trussell is out and about on the region's beaches, snapping images for a special charity calendar.

Alice, 27, from Braunton, is taking photos which sum up the essence of beach life in North Devon - and they'll feature on a 2004 calendar raising money for the North Devon Hospice.

Alice, who studied photography at Reading College of Art and Design, aims to show various aspects of North Devon's coast.

"I'm taking a whole load of pictures - people on the beach, surfing, beach sports - and then I'll decide which ones to include in the calendar."

Alice is also asking other local people to contribute to the project by donating their own photos of beach life in North Devon.

"I want to make it a community project, not only by having local businesses donate the money but by having input from local photographers and artists."

There's also a competition, where young people can send in their photos - with the best being selected for the calendar. There are three age categories: 5-11; 12-17; and 17-21.

Help from businesses is needed to help cover the costs of the project.

It's hoped the calendar will raise thousands of pounds for the North Devon Hospice, which is in Barnstaple.

The hospice is for people who suffer from potentially life-threatening illnesses.

It provides home care and day care for 500 people every year.

"I wanted to raise money for the hospice because I think it does such good work, and it is local too," said Alice.

Details of how you can contribute towards the calendar can be found on the left hand side of this page.
