Plymouth city centre revamp: Photos

These photos were taken on 24th March 2004. This one shows the area opposite Boots

We're putting together a photo 'diary' of the £170 million revamp of Drake Circus in Plymouth so you can see it take shape. The work started in early 2004 and the new Drake Circus shopping centre should be ready for opening in autumn 2006.

FACTS

The scheme proposes a modern fully covered city centre development with shops, cafes, restaurants and multi storey car park with spaces for 1,270 cars.

The existing centre was designed in the 1970's around a supermarket and six-storey office building.

Drake Circus will provide up to 1,000 jobs during the construction phase and up to 2,000 full and part time positions when complete.

The work should be complete in 2006.
