New buzz from energy project scheme

Electrifying Success: the new project brings together dozens
of energy schemes around the county

Renewable energy projects are making their mark in Devon.

The dozens of schemes around the county are now being brought under a new umbrella project to be officially launched today.

The Devon Association for Renewable Energy, or Dare for short, has been formed by a consortium of five communities where renewable energy is already popular.

Its work will carry on from that of the Solar Devon and Salzburg Project led by Devon County Council, which began two years ago to promote renewable energy at a community level.

A delegation from Salzburg will be at County Hall in Exeter today for the launch of Dare.

Among the projects they've seen on a three-day visit to the county are a farm in Axmouth, fuelled by wood-heating, an award-winning recycling shop in Ottery St Mary, and Ilfracombe's energy saving youth hostel.
