Rachel Smith was training to become a lawyer when she was struck down by the debilitating illness, ME.

The illness followed a bout of glandular fever in 1994 and it led to her abandoning her career ambitions.

Rachel, from Plymouth, also loved sport and was a keen musician - but this has also been impossible.

Rachel is a Christian and says her faith has given her the strength needed to overcome the illness, which she has suffered for 11 years.

"My faith has made a huge difference," she said. "It has been a real source of strength. I believe in the healing power of prayer.

"I don't think I would have coped without it - and I refuse to believe that I won't get better."

She tells her story in two five minute parts to BBC Radio Devon's faith producer Pippa Quelch.
