The
Bishop of Exeter has been talking to John Coates
As
part of the BBC Radio Devon programmes for Christmas 2004, John Coates
has been chatting to the Bishop of Exeter, the Right Reverend Michael
Langrish...
It's
a wide ranging conversation that covers the Bishop's days in the car
industry in Birmingham, and then teaching in the east end of London,
and Africa, before being ordained.
The Bishop talks of his concerns and wishes for the farming industry,
and his enormous enjoyment of the wide variety of people he meets
on a day to day basis.
I was a very keen scout in my early teens
but church was not a feature of my homelife when I was a child.
The
Bishop thinks he can identify with people who feel that the
church is a strange place.
We hear
about the influences that brought the Bishop to faith, and led to
him being ordained.
He also shares his views on other faiths, and includes some thoughts
on religiously motivated suicide bombers.
John Coates also seeks the Bishop's views on the Church of England
as it is today, his approach to female ordinands, and how he wishes
congregations in Devon would welcome newcomers to their church.
