Boat On The Water: Alice Tatton-Brown, Hannah Silva and Chloe Langford

Each audience will be eight people

Three women in a boat

Hannah Silva, the Plymouth-based performance poet, talks about Boat On The Water - a new show combining dance, poetry and theatre performed on board a yacht moored in Plymouth.

Most performers don't live in the performance space for the week before the show opens, but then Boat on the Water isn't your average show.

For a start it is being staged aboard a 34ft yacht, The Panacea, moored in Plymouth and will be performed 10 times over two days, each time to an audience of just eight people.

Plymouth-based performance poet Hannah Silva explained the idea behind Boat On The Water which she has created with dancer Chloe Langford and actor Alice Tatton-Brown.

There will be 10 performances

"We knew we wanted to do something together bringing together the three art forms," says Hanna, who was recently described by The Times as "one of the most ambitious and entertaining poets in the country".

"We were really interested in working in unusual locations and so we came up with the idea of doing it on the boat."

The trio will live on the boat for a week before the show opens, perfecting the story.

"We are going to use the time to work out the best way to use the space."

The story is about three sisters who are united on a boat from their childhood and share stories through poetry, dance and theatre.

Each audience will be met at the marina's car park by one of the cast and taken to the boat for the half-hour performance, which is being staged with support from Dance for Devon and Apples and Snakes.

"There will definitely be some surprises," says Hannah, who trained at Dartington College, as did Chloe.

So what does she think the audience will get out of seeing a show in such an unusual and intimate venue?

"We want people to be really open to seeing work in a completely different location, with all the sounds like the wind and the other boats around us.

"It will be a chance to combine Chloe's physicality, Alice's storytelling and my poetry and I hope it will be a unique experience."

Tickets are free but need to be booked, which can be done by contacting Hannah through her website through the links on this page.
