Two families with extreme views come together at Rougemont Gardens where the story of Romeo and Juliet is told. This city centre park in Exeter is the perfect setting for the feuding families, the Capulets and Montagues. ![]() Matti Houghton as Juliet It still boasts the banks and ditches of William the Conqueror's castle and gives the actors ample cover so they can spring onto the stage from behind the trees to bring you this timeless story of young love and bitter family fighting. The tale of Romeo and Juliet is as relevant today as it was when it was written by William Shakespeare in the 16th century. The star crossed lovers and their warring families serve up a feast of flirting and fights, but not so as to give the game away, some factions lead to fatal consequences. If you're a first timer to Shakespeare or even open-air theatre then this is a great one to see. ![]() Shakespeare in the park The dates for your diary, where you can see Liam Bergin playing Romeo and Matti Houghton as Juliet, are from 16 July to 8 August 2009. The production is a collaboration with Exeter's Northcott Theatre and Ludlow Festival Society's Romeo and Juliet, directed by Kate Saxon. But if you already know the story then there's nothing better than to sit under a setting sun and watch the magic of this classic tale of Romeo and Juliet unfold.
