Here's where you'll find them. Flying the Blue Flag...Out of 82 Blue Flags awarded for clean beaches around the UK, Devon scored an impressive 16 - the same number as in 2007. Preston Beach in Paignton makes a welcome return for 2008, having lost its Blue Flag status in 2007. Paignton Beach also returns with a Blue Flag for the first time since 2002. ![]() Sandy Bay in Exmouth - another new Blue Flag beach However two previous award winners, Croyde Bay and Salcombe South Sands both miss out on a 2008 Blue flag. The award of a European Blue Flag is a symbol of high environmental standards as well as good sanitary and safety facilities.
