South Devon based Satta have recorded the song, after lyricist and drummer PJ wrote the words in a competition. PJ, who lives in Kingskerswell, won the competition which was run by a mobile phone TV service. ![]() PJ on the drums "I was just taking a look at this mobile phone TV station when they said they were holding a competition for people to send in some lyrics for a song. "I had just seen on the news another item about a stabbing and I was saddened and angry. "So I sent in some anti-knife lyrics, which had to be compressed because they were done on text. "Then, a couple of weeks later, they told me I had won." Now, Satta (which means thanks and praise in a musical way in the Ethiopian bible) have put the words to music. The track is called Nah Jux, which means No Knife. ![]() The band will be recording the anti-knife song "It's such a huge message to get out there, especially to the youth," said PJ. Satta have been around for years under various names - they were called Tsunami Sound System, but changed their name after the 2004 Boxing Day disaster. They started off as a sound system with lots of speakers and are now an eight piece session band with guest singers. PJ said: "There can't be many reggae bands in Devon, but Torquay used to be a big area for reggae in the days of the 400 Club, and it's coming back in Plymouth. "We play a lot of covers at live gigs, but we've got quite a lot of material which we would like to put together on a proper demo CD. "It's just having that break, really. If we just made it big in Devon, that would be great." You can find our more about Satta and hear some of their music on their myspace website which is linked from this page.
