Thousands of people all over the world have been addicted to the amazing images of Sita the black rhino and her new born calf. Dedicated fans have been logging on every day to catch the big moment. But don't despair if you missed it. The South West edition of BBC1's Inside Out series has been taking a behind-the-scenes look at Sita's pregnancy and were there to capture the first images of the calf as it was born.

They shared their expertise with the BBC Devon website - providing the technical know-how for the camera installation. The BBC installed remote controlled cameras in the rhino house and BT supplied a special broadband line so that images could be streamed onto the world wide web. If you missed the programme on BBC1, you can watch it again at your leisure right here on the BBC Devon website. "It's been an absolute privilege to be in such close proximity to Sita at this amazing moment," said Inside Out producer Andrew Brown.

"A black rhino birth has never been filmed before and we were able to get exclusive access during the nail-biting first few hours of the calf's life. "Since we began filming the rhino enclosure nearly two months ago the website has received more than 400,000 visits. "The interest has grown enormously. Within an hour of the birth, the BBC had received more than 500 emails from viewers as far afield as New Zealand, Mexico and the United States." |
