When Chaz Singh from Plymouth first came up with his idea of portraying life as a British-born Sikh using photos and poetry, he couldn't have known what an impact it would make. Chaz's exhibition, entitled Sikh-ing His Britishness, was produced as part of the BBC's Breeze Project. Jointly funded with the Arts Council, the aim of Breeze was to promote up-and-coming creative talent in Devon. Chaz commissioned a series of photographs of himself at various locations in Plymouth. Alongside the photos are poems which express his feelings of life as a British-born Sikh. It's also a public statement about his fight against prejudice. The exhibition has received publicity across the UK - and even abroad.

This Spring, the exhibition is on show for a month at the b Bar at Plymouth's Barbican Theatre. "I'm a Sikh but I'm a British Sikh," said Chaz. "All these pictures are powerful images showing my Britishness in my new home town, Plymouth," added Chaz, who moved to the city four years ago. Chaz developed a taste for the arts at the Barbican Theatre, where he attended cultural exchange workshops and got involved in an educational project around race, identity and culture, called Other People's Shoes. This is his first exhibition at the theatre. "I would like to thank everybody who has helped me in getting where I am today," said Chaz. "During the last three years numerous people have given me a platform to develop my taste for the arts. In the pipeline are more creative media projects to tease the imagination." Also on show during the exhibition are photos of integration taken by Monika Fischbein. Sikh-ing His Britishness is at the b Bar, Barbican Theatre, Plymouth, on 5 March - 5 April. Admission: Free.
