With so much
information around from scientists, weather forecasters, climatologists,
and so many different opinions, it's easy to be confused and to do nothing.
BBC Devon
is taking the initiative and, along with you, getting something done about
climate change.
We are asking
you to make a pledge to change some things in the way you run your everyday
life.
In making
the pledge, it's not just for change in the short term, it is now and
forever. Every pledge, every action, no matter how small will help limit
the effects of climate change.
Here are
some ideas -
- Replace
light bulbs with low energy bulbs.
- Don't
leave appliances on standby.
- Only
boil enough water for your immediate needs.
- Insulate
your loft, your hot water tank, and, where possible the cavity walls.
- Washing
at 30oC reduces power consumption by 40 per cent when compared with
'normal' temperatures.
- Walk
those short journeys rather than take the car.
- Share
a car for those regular predictable journeys.
- Move
thermostats down by 1o in the winter cuts fuel bills by 10 per cent.
