Hundreds of people gathered at Haytor rocks in Devon on Saturday 22nd July for the BBC's Big Dance Class - where they danced to the beat of Taiko drummers. The participants signed up for The Big Dance Class world record attempt, organised by BBC local radio stations - including BBC Radio Devon.

The event took place simultaneously at venues across the UK with thousands of people dancing to a specially compiled routine starting at 12.30pm. At Haytor the number of dancers was limited to no more than 470 - but they made a spectacular sight as they enthusiastically followed the beat of the Taiko drums. The participants strutted their stuff on the lower rocks and on the pathways surrounding Haytor. Even a herd a Dartmoor ponies couldn't resist stopping by to have a look. Hoping to set a new World Record

The Big Dance Class was conceived as part of the BBC1 TV programme 'Dancing in the Street', hosted by Bruce Forsyth and Zoe Ball. It follows the hugely successful Strictly Dance series. The climax of the programme will be the announcement of a new World Record, set earlier in the day by people across the UK who took part in their local Big Dance Class. |
