Grecians aim for rapid rise

Exeter City FC have unveiled a four-year plan, with the aim of being a League One club by 2010.

Exeter City have set a target of two promotions within the next four years, as part of an ambitious vision for the future.

The club, currently pushing for promotion in the Conference, wants to be in League One by 2010.

The Grecians were relegated out of the Football League at the end of the 2002-2003 season, and have been stuck in the Conference since.

But now, club bosses are hoping that with their financial problems behind them, City can climb the leagues.

The Exeter City board has had help in drawing up a forward planning document from management consultant Paul Morrish, who is a City fan and offered his services free of charge.

The club's first target is to win promotion this season, and the board is providing funds for manager Alex Inglethorpe to sign three players to boost his squad.

In a statement, the board of directors said: "We have been keen to ensure that we have the financial side of Exeter City set up in line with our ambitions and plans.

"We have every confidence in Alex, and know that we are all here to support him, Steve Perryman, and the players in achieving the success we now feel is within our grasp.

"We have therefore been able to provide funds to enable Alex to bring in up to three quality players to support our common desire to cement a promotion push between now and the end of the season."

As part of the vision, the club is looking to make savings.

The board statement said: "We are embarking on a full internal overhead review which we are confident will also yield further significant cost savings to help us both balance the books and also create the necessary profits to enable us to invest in what we are all here for - a successful football team."

The four year plan has the backing of Inglethorpe: "We now have the basis and plans for moving the club to the next phase," he said.

"I am enthused to be working with our supporters, Steve Perryman, the board, and Paul Morrish, backed by this announcement of much improved investment in our playing budgets.

"This is an exciting time to be associated with Exeter City."
