A
Devon charity aims to raise thousands of pounds for local voluntary
and community groups by holding an official Devon Cream Tea fundraising
week. So prepare to pile on the clotted cream and 'Do it for Devon'.

Every
year thousands of volunteers make a difference by helping local people
and communities in need.
Now there’s a way you can help them by taking part in a giant Devon
Cream Tea party over the Whitsun week.
It's a great opportunity to pile on the clotted cream, slap on the
jam and get the kettle on.
Dozens of cream tea events are being held across the county as part
of 'Do it for Devon' week between 28th May and 4th June.
The Devon Community Foundation is enlisting the support of tourist
attractions, tearooms, hotels, sports clubs, and businesses.
Literally anyone can get involved by organising a cream tea party
of their own.
"We're
urging people to 'Do it For Devon' and help support the county's
volunteers in their valuable work by simply holding a cream tea
party," said Melanie McLoughlin, Director of Devon Community
Foundation.

"Volunteers
running sports and theatre groups, youth clubs, drop-in centres
for the elderly, community transport or help groups for disabled
people are the life blood of our communities."
She added: "Fundraising is often difficult and time-consuming
for these small groups - which is where the Devon Community Foundation
comes in."
BBC Radio Devon's Judi Spiers has already given her support to the
Do it for Devon campaign which is set to become an annual event.
Last year the Devon Community Foundation supported over 260 local
and voluntary groups across the county.
Grants totalling almost £1 million helped to provide everything
from a holiday for young carers, to sailing for disabled children
and from rural transport for teenagers to lunch clubs for the elderly.
All money raised in 'Do it For Devon' week will be administered
in the form of grants by the Foundation.
