When and how do you recruit trainees?
Information on this year's dates and application criteria can be found via APPLY FOR THE SCHEME on this site.
How do BBC productions source their design teams?
There is no design department or centralised design database for design crew recruitment. In the BBC, the Producer/Director will usually contract their Head of Department (HOD) for design. This is usually based upon previous experience and recommendation. Each HOD will then crew the rest of their team, in collaboration with the line producer or production manager.
Who can I send my CV to in the BBC?
The BBC does not have a central registry of freelance employees. There is no design department or centralised design database for design crew recruitment.
How can I make design contacts?
The usual process is to contact individual designers or design crew and forward your CV. Designers' names and details are available in industry publications such as The Knowledge and Kay's Directory. Bear in mind that they will not give definitive lists.
How do I find out about BBC productions needing design crew?
There is no centralised listing of forthcoming BBC productions. The BBC press office releases information on recently commissioned productions.
I would like to gain an insight into working in design to make an informed choice of GCSE, GNVQ or A level subjects.
Please see DESIGN IN FILM AND TV on this site, which gives career advice, definition of job roles, characteristics and skills needed.

I would like work experience in a BBC design department.
The BBC does not have an in-house design department to support its productions. All design teams for production/set design, costume, make-up and hair are freelance employees. There is no central process for design work experience. More general work experience opportunities are offered via the BBC work experience programme
