PresentersYou are in: Derby > BBC Radio Derby > Presenters > Colin Bloomfield Colin BloomfieldColin Bloomfield is the voice of BBC Radio Derby between 4 and 7pm Monday to Friday. ![]() Probably the 5th most famous person to come out of Shrewsbury (4th is Percy Thrower!), Colin's early ventures into broadcasting included dancing to Whigfield's 'Saturday Night' live on BBC Radio Shropshire for Children In Need before an appearance alongside Gordon the Gopher on Saturday morning kids show, Going Live. The tape's gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere never to be recovered! After putting ambitions to be an astronaut, a chef and a paramedic on hold (he doesn't like heights, can't cook, and gets a bit squeemish at the sight of blood), Colin finally decided on a career in radio. He started out at working as a journalist in news and sport at Radio Shropshire, and followed it with stints at Radio Leeds, WM, and Stoke. He arrived at Radio Derby in 2004 and hasn't looked back since - working as reporter, producer and news reader. His "Highlights" include being sworn at by Gordon Ramsey when he filmed at his TV show in Derby and reporting from Wembley on the day Derby County clinched promotion to the Premier League. Away from work, Colin loves his sport (you'll often find him crying into his tea about Shrewsbury Town's latest defeat) and never a man to shrink from a challenge, he'll tell anyone who listens how he once completed the Derby 10k in 48 minutes! Whether it's for the pick of the day's news, sport, travel, weather or some great music, Colin's on every weekday afternoon on BBC Radio Derby. Hear Colin: |
