Derby
The city has had surprisingly few claims to fame on the big screen
- but several appearances on TV - including the county's most famous
series, Peak Practice.
Vernon Street, close to the city centre, was used as a setting in
the 1980s series, Nanny.
The Arboretum, Britain's first public park, opened in 1840, provided
a setting for Ken Russell's Women In Love - the bandstand was where
the boy's choir was filmed singing.
Kedleston Hall This popular venue,
just outside the city boundaries, has featured in several TV and
film productions, including: Nanny,
Women in Love, Boon and, of course, Peak
Practice.
National Tramway Museum, Crich This
was home, for a while, to the Peak Practice production team - but
other visitors have included Jim'll Fix It, Blue Peter and Anneka
Rice in Treasure Hunt.
Red House Stables (Nr Matlock) This
hasn't been used so much as a venue but as a provider of fine carriages
for a whole host of productions.
The list
is impressive: Pride and Prejudice,
Sons and Lovers, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Women in Love, Lady Jane
Grey, Jane Eyre, Far From The
Madding Crowd, Sense and Sensibility, Peak
Practice, Flambards, Woman of Substance, The Princess Bride
and many, many more.
