Billy Davies leaves Derby County

The Rams have parted company with manager Billy Davies after a miserable start to life back in the Premier League.

Billy Davies's 18 months in charge of Derby County have come to an end.

The club has announced the manager will be standing down following a meeting with chairman Adam Pearson, hastily arranged after Davies claimed in an interview following Saturday's Chelsea defeat that he hadn't seen the chairman in three weeks.

Davies celebrates promotion in May

The move comes six months after Davies led the Rams to promotion through the play-offs in a memorable day at Wembley.

But the Rams have made a miserable start to life back in the Premier League and sit bottom of the table having failed to score in the past eight games.

Chairman Adam Pearson issued the following statement confirming Davies's departure.

It said: "I have met with Billy Davies this morning and we have decided mutually in the best interests of both parties that to go our separate ways is the correct decision at this time.

"Billy Davies leaves Derby County with our best wishes and our genuine gratitude in achieving a magnificent promotion to the Premier League, where everyone connected with the club wanted to be.

"We wish Billy all the best for his future career and both parties will now move forward, which I am sure will lead to future success for Billy Davies and Derby County."

Billy Davies told BBC Radio Derby: "What's quite ironic on the morning of my parting of the ways with Derby County is that I'm going to the East Midlands Sports Awards tonight to pick up the coach of the year award.

"But I've had a wonderful time here. There have been lots of ups and downs but in the main I'm very proud of what has been achieved at Derby County and I'm walking away with my head held high."

Adam Pearson confirmed Davies's backroom team had also left the club and Academy manager Kevin Thelwell would be picking the team for Saturday's trip to Sunderland.

The chairman said he would begin recruiting a new manager on Wednesday. Paul Jewell and Steve McClaren are among the names being suggested by bookmakers.

Thank you Billy for everything you have achieved at our great club.It was our ambition to win at wembley,it was our ambition to get into the premier league. Both objectives met.Yes its been difficult so far this year ,as he said investment was needed,we can all see that. Why get rid of Billy and all the staff only for us to start all over again.Does that mean that this season is already a write off,and we go through the motions for the remainder of the season.I sincerely hope not.It took a lot of hard work to get where we are now and i intend us to do everything necessary to keep us here. Thanks for everything Billy.you will always be respected and remembered for what you achieved at our football club.Best of luck for the future and no doubt our paths will cross at some stage in the premier league

Sorry to see him go but i don't think the blame rests with the board, Billy has been putting an escape strategy in place since May. The comments after the Final, On-going saga of his demands for Ned Kelly, spending £3.5M on a player he does not rate, comments after Staurday's game. I think perhaps his confidence waxes and wanes and he now has the chance to walk away without looking like he has quit (which has happened in all but name). Life as a Derby County supporter, never a dull moment !
Dave D

The reality is that lots of Derby fans have proved their loyalty by backing Billy Davies. However,a lot of it is blind loyalty.Where was Billy Davies's loyalty to Derby County straight after the play off final, when he suggested that he might leave, and criticised the fans? The board did give him money,in January;to what effect? In the close season,he failed to attract quality players.Where was the kind of player that George Burley was able to find? The fact is that Billy Davies did almost as good a job after receiving money,as Burley did with no money, and a terrible board.Oh,and the football was of a higher quality than the poor fare that we saw most of last season. We should all be grateful to Davies for what he did ;but it was time to go.The first half of the Chelsea game saw long, high balls played to the front without a target man playing. That is bad management.I sincerely wish Billy and his staff all the best for the future, and hope that the whole crowd rally behind the club as ever.
mark smith

Can't help thinking we've made a BIG mistake. This year has not been great, but Davies is a fine manager. He was last year, he still is, and he will be in the future. Ince to replace him is either bold or stupid. To me, unless its Paul Jewell or Peter Taylor it is pointless. They're both good managers, but are they better than BD?
Steve, Glasgow

I think this was all about the money being avaliable to spend on transfers come January. Billy obviously wants a crack at staying up and I think the board are resigned to religation. Regardless, Something should have been done to allow Billy to stay.
Dave, Stoke

ADAM PEARSON quoted a few weeks ago, that BILLY DAVIS was the man for Derby and if we went down at the end of the season, that Billy was the man to bring them straight back up again. He also quoted in his interview on Sky Sports News this morning, that he wanted a manager who has a passion for winning, who wants to take Derby forward and take pride in the success of Derby, then what name springs to mind ---- BILLY DAVIS. Also he quoted they are not going to be hasty at bringing in a new manager. So why is he saying he has three strong candidates already, was this a preplanned decision before he had even arrived. Is Adam Pearson a man you can trust and want at a club like Derby County after only being here for four weeks. Time will tell. Good luck Billy for the future.
EAST STANDER

it is fair to say Billy did a great job for us but his tactics and signings made this season have been poor.We only seem to sign players thats been under him before. where`s the scouts gone that found signings like stimac, asanovic, eranio, biaino, wanchope, eg look at some of the signings of harry redknapp lately.lets get paul jewell in, not a long term man but we need to stop up this year first and foremost, then build after that
ste,belper

The step up to the Premiership came a year too early for Derby and Billy's experience at this level. But one thing is for sure he's a quick learner and given time would have been a top,top manager. Derby have shot themself in the foot again- another potential Cloughie slipped through our hands. When will Derby County ever learn. Billy deserved at least another season and I am sure he would have achieved long term stability - not this constant break it mentality. Billy deserves a big pat on the back- if nothing else for taking a Championship relegation side straight into the Premiership. We don't win much but what a great day a Wembley- thanks Billy.
Pat.

Derby County have no loyalty to a manager who achieved great things in a short time. Success takes time and patience. Derby Counties leaders have neither. Billy Davies should have been given at least three years to build a close knit and competative unit. What they did to Brian Clough is repeated with astounding regularity. Will they never learn?
John Morris.

Dont get sentimental Derby over BD going, Adam Pearson has backbone to make a difficult decision, BD did an excellent job the wembly game was fantastic', whats gone on behind closed doors will come out in time, but for time being dont judge just get behind the Rams
John - Kirk Hallam

Derby were rubbish last season after Billy brought in his signings only Howards scoring almost every game got us up,i wouldnt give him a penny to spend.
paul (spondon)

Does anyone realize that no other manager is going to do much better with the same group of players? Whoever the new boss is may make some different changes like playing Earnshaw, but is that realy going to make much more of a difference? BBB! (Bring Billy Back)
Jack Bradley

I can fully understand the events which have taken place at Derby today. Billy Davis was a good manager but why on earth would you publicly inform the entire transfer market that you are looking for players, in the run up to the January window? Wouldn't it have been better to keep your cards close to your chest and to be able to wheel and deal? - Clubs you will be trying to buy players from would inflated prices! After the comments Billy gave after the Chelsea game I would have been very worried if Pearson had not have either publicly "slapped" his manager, or as he has done, sacked him. These players need to get a massive boost of confidence from whoever comes in. They CAN do better, but, as Billy said, new players are needed. I think Paul Jewel could be the one to take them forward.
Chris Rose

So Pearson thinks the team we have can keep us in the pl, Whats he on? this means no new players,Championship here we come. Good luck billy, a great manager.
Shaun (Mansfield)

Im sorry to see Billy go but i'd like to see Dennis Wise as the next manager. He's the man to kick the players up the backside and get the results everyone's paid their season tickets for. I feel he could also kick Adam Pearson up the backside to get him on the front line and see how hard it is for the manager.
Gail

A big thankyou to Billy & the team for what he achieved with the Rams during his tenure. The time was right for a change, let's go for someone with a proven Premier League track record - David O'Leary would be my choiceUp the Rams!
Andrew Smith

big big mistake getting rid of billy. you have to be patient in football. as the saying goes... rome wasn't built in a day. it can take you years to build a club into something greater than you are. hope some of the fans are happy. they got what they wanted.
dave smith.

I'm sad to see Davies go. I have to concede that his signings this summer have not been the greatest, but I think it would have taken at least eleven new players to give us even a chance of staying in the Premier League.People should not forget how much Davies has done for this club. No-one expected promotion last season, but it came and we are facing the consequences of being out of our depth on and off the pitch. It is a little ironic that Davies is sacked now as I thouhgt that we played well in defeat on Saturday; organised, committed, fairly solid and simply beaten by a side whose cetre half would be worth more than our entire team! A few more performances like that and we may have got a few results at home at least. So, what do we have left? We are managerless, botton of the league, will probably be relegated and go to one of our rivals for the drop on Saturday without a leader. If anyone can think of an available manager who could do better than Davies then he had better name him and Pearson better appoint him very soon. If anyone thinks that Ince is the man then please think again! To Mr Pearson - you have taken a brave decision and it is not one that will endear you to the fans. Perhaps you have thought too much of the short term and do not have the long term interests of DCFC at heart? If that is the case leave now. This club does not need another Robert Maxwell....!The only thing to say to DFCF fans is SHUT UP ABOUT HOW GREAT SETH JOHNSON WAS!!! HE WASN'T!!!!Thank you Billy for some wonderful memories. I for one will never forget Wembley. Your replacement has some big shoes to fill. All the very best.
Ian, Birmingham

sorry to see Billy leave full of passion but sadly you can't publicly criticise your chairman. billy gave me one of the best 2 matchs of my life southampton at home wba at wembley thanks billy and all the best for the future always welcome at pride park
steve, ilson

He is a very good championship manager but out of his depth like his team in the premier who ever comes in now as his work cut out sorting it all out
Bill Frearson

Can't believe people are saying they wouldnt want Steve Maclaren - look at what Derby did while he was here and what happened when he went!!!!If the board at the time had done more to keep him from joining Man U - I wonder if we would ever have been relegated.PS - can we have Seth back now?
Simon Taylor

The writing was on the wall after the miserable drubbing by West Ham, unfortunately we are now drifting rudderless again until the new man can be found.£5m on the bench Saturday? methinks ego's got in the way. Thanks for the promotion Billy, to big a step for the club at the time, to big a step for you too.
Neil & George East Leake

Thank God he has gone.I was sick of hearing his pathetic excuses for buying bad players, poor tactic and team selection
paul heanor

More short-sighted football malaise. Sacking the manager just deflects attention. There is no patience and no work ethic. No sense of rolling up sleeves and pulling together - just a never ending search for someone else to blame. Agreed he appears to have bought some poor players - but did he buy what he could? e.g. even Kenwyne Jones wasn't interested in Derby. The financial pulling power of the club is what it is. Yes, results and performances have been poor even allowing for the rapid advancement to this stage. Maybe he will prove not to be up to the challenge of the Premiership but overall I think its a snappy decisions and he probably deserved the chance to turn it around because of what he has already achieved. Examples of sticking with the manager: Alex Ferguson in the early days at United, Bobby Robson after failing to qualify for European Championships in 1984 - need I go on? In all walks of life, people tend to learn more from mistakes than successes. He will just take these lessons away and they will benefit someone else.
Gareth

I seriously wonder whether it was on purpose - Billy seemed unsettled even before the start of the season and it has been clear he hasnt enjoyed the way this season has gone at all but no-one in their right mind walks away from a 3 year deal without a pay off - getting the boot is the only way to go.Billy Davies is a smart man - when he made those comments on Saturday he must have known that it would have made his relationship with the new chairman unworkable. As Mourinho proved - if a manager takes on a chair there is only one winner.Personally - I am grateful for what Billy Davies achieved for the club and wish him every success - just as long as it isnt against us!Thanks Billy!
Simon Taylor

Well the BD fans have certainly come out strong over his removal, are these not the same fans that were cursing him for the rubbish that we have all witnessed this season from the players that he bought in. its no use moaning when things go wrong if you are not big enough to take the necessary action which Pearson has had no alternative but to do.No manager is bigger than the club and we should not forget that. If I dont perform at work I get the boot, even if I did alright last year.Stop moaning and talking about boycotting games this plays into the hands of those who want DCFC to do poorly you know who they are.lets get behind the team and and the board and support DCFC not just one man, he isnt and never would be another Cloughie!Lets get someone in who knows how to manage men not some has been manager or Nigel who may be ok where he is but he is not ready for the big leagues yet.
madmax

Is this Clough v Longson all over again? Will there be demonstrations in the city?Who else senses another ' 3 Amigos' situation developing?Next thing, the Co-op will be knocking on the door.Oh the joys of being a Rams fan, it's never easy
Stephen Glossop

I think it is awful news that Billy Davies has been sacked - and just before the Sunderland game. He has been brilliant for Derby getting us promotion when we needed to make it this season, with all the changes taking place in the Prem regarding monetary payments. I hope Paul Jewel is our next manager as McClaren will just make us an even a bigger target of derision by the media.Come on Derby we have been through worse than this...... and thanks Billy
Jo, Mickleover

Of course Pearson was right to sack him he,s wasted £12000000 on players by buying no better or worse than we already had. Why give him any more . Where is Seth Johnson he,s better than anybody we have played in midfield this season.
m.blurton

Billy and his team needed more time. Synergy on & off the field takes time. A big error.
Roy Smith

Davis is a good manager, who learns from his mistakes. Just look at him in the play off final. He said at Preston we had a day out in cardiff week before and had a look around the Millennium Stadium, I will not do this this time. I will treat it like any away game and go to Wembley the day of the game. I thinks Davis knows what he has done wrong at Derby, and will take another team up and will do well and keep them up even make Europe. Please not Paul Ince, what has he ever done. At least Jewell has kept Bradford and Wigan up in the past. Also McLaren has worked a lot in this league. rather look for a manager who could keep us up, look for a manager who could get us back up. O sorry that was Billy Davis. Sad you see you go and good luck in the future(apart from when you play Derby).
East South Corner Season Ticket Holder, Hilton

Billy has done a good job for us, but don't be fooled he has jumped ship. Listen to the Preston fans. Rams were always just a stepping stone for an ambitious man. Thanks Billy and good luck. Lets have a fresh man with fesh ideas. Come on you Rams!
Chadd Fan

Billy did a good job but without further investment it was impossible to go further in the premier league.
A. Mackie

I'm afraid Mr Pearson you have probably lost the trust of 90% of Derby supporters.Me included. Billy was a very popular manager doing his best with the resources he has got and i'm sorry but i don't think there was anybody better to get us out of the position we are in. Mr Pearson is in for a very bummpy ride!! Good luck to Billy Davies and i hope he has the success he deserves.
Michael (Two Dales)

Derby County and Instability yet again goes hand in hand. It strikes me that the board have decided to accept relegation and not invest this year. This has come to a head with Billy Davis requesting money for players, in order to spend in the transfer window. A system that does no favours for newly promoted teams by the way. I was amazed we were promoted so quickly and the premiership is the place to be, not just for a season we have to try and stay there. This decision will not help that process, if the board had made clear this approach I am sure the club would not have sold so many season tickets. I am also now very sceptical of a board I regarded highly when rescuing the club from its awful position. It appears they too just want to sell out for profit.
Rob Allerton

This all stinks of a clash of ego to me, I'm sure Mr Pearson will do a great job in the long term for our club, but billy is the best man for the job. Surely a grown up chat over coffee could of resolved the differences and relations move on, works for me. Billy thank you for a day that still makes me shiver. Truly a great manager that deserves his place in the records of our great, yet somewhat suicidal football club.
Mad Ram Long Eaton

Enough said about billy i think the new manager is all ready selected. After watching goals on sunday where jewel was a guest he said he was ready to return to managment and one of the reasons he left Wigan was because of the lack of money but also, and he stressed this was the small fan base, ie the capcity of the ground which does'nt apply at pride park.
Jac (Swadlincote

Davies did a great job getting us promoted last season but we cant live in the past .this season the Rams have been woeful, and managers nowadays are judged on results,so in my opinion i am surprised he lasted this long.We have been humiliated 4 or 5 times already, not scored a goal in god knows how long and dont forget that we were also dumped out of the cup by the mighty BLACKPOOL
Asa derby

King Billy will always be remebered for his genious in reinstating the Super Rams as a Premiership Club. Problem was he hung his dirty washing out in his post match interview; something Derby have been only to used to in recent decades. Billy should not have held Mr Pearson to ransom without first being armed with the facts of what was to happen.I trust that Mr Pearson has an 'Ace' up his sleave. Surely he wouldn't allow a situation to deteriorate such that Billy and nine of his backroom staff leave within hours of each other, without at least having a contingency plan of action to cover the event.Let's all hope and pray that this is the first piece in a pre planned puzzle to greater fortune and success, and not as I fear the first card to fall from the stack !Derby till I die.
PAUL TOPLIFF

I agree with Jonathon of Spondon. Thanks Billy and Good Luck for the future.
Colin - Chaddesden

I think the club are not giving the players and Billy a chance to bed down to the premiership, at the end of the last season when we qualified Billy was worried that we had won promotion to quick and felt the squad was not going to be prepared for the premiership. The team should calm down and play the game as though it was the most important job in there life. For a long time the team has showed no passion for there chosen proffesion.
Dave Hudson

As a season ticket holder I'm full of praise for what Billy has done for the club. We knew it was going to be tough this season and we were going to be short of cash. But over the last few weeks you question his approach. Under Billy we always seem to be liable to leak goals. He needed to first make Derby difficult to beat. He should also have given Earnshaw more starts, he had nothing to loose and as with Seth Johnson last season might have been pleasantly surprised.
Bob Allen, Belper

Didn't expect this. But have to be philisophical - the club and fans should be very grateful to Billy for last season and for Wembley - a tremendous job. But he's gone now, regardless of what you think. So that's it. Done. End of. We now need to get positive and this squad needs to grab itself by the scruff of the neck and work. Pearson did a good thing by speaking to them all and, for the time being, we at least have brains in charge with Oakley and Moore. Pearson is no mug - we have yet to see his full intentions for the club but I'm backing him for now. I just hope prospective bosses out there can expect to be supported otherwise we'll end up with another Phil Brown.
Ross Lowe

I am disappointed to see Billy leave the club - he has done a great job and I would like to thank him for helping Derby get back into the premier league where they belong. Good luck Billy.
Eve Hartwell

....someone wake me up, Just dreaming Billy had gone and Peter Taylor had replaced him!!!!!
Nick ,Derby

Billy Davies deserved more from Derby. Yes, they were promoted too soon and it was a huge learning curve for him, the players and the club. I always felt Billie would come good. He has always had my support.. for what it's worth. It's ironic that they played with such spirit against Chelsea it was if they had turned the corner...Billieyou did so well for Derby. I hope you go on to bigger and better things and will earn the thanks and respect of a better club. Good Luck and congratulations on your BBC East Midlands Coach of the Year award. Youso derserve it.
gilly groom

This is probably a Big mistake, but at the same time i think Billy needed some help. Tactically the crowd had been crying out for him to use Kenny Miller as he should and not as a target man. So i'm not really sure how to feel. But we will likely regret this and regret even more the day Pearson came to Derby.
East Stand Drummer

The worst ever top flight Derby County - full of awful signings playing in a side totally shapeless and devoid of any tactical nous all courtesy of Billy Davies - a well overdue time to say goodbye. Just the thought of Davies not spending (wasting) more money in the transfer window must come as great relief to all Rams fans.(Gateshead 5-3)
Mick Robinson

Oh, well whoever said football was run by sensible people? This was certainly on the cards as Billy was clearly frustrated and does not appear to be the kind of person to hold things back. You might question one or two of his signings and i know that our results have been poor but no-one can argue that Billy has been the best manager we have had for a very long timeNow, having been in his position for just a matter of weeks Mr Pearson has obviously taken exception to Billy wanting to improve his squad and try to survive in the PL? Bizarre!!If this is what happens to someone that has bought at least a modicum of success to our team just what chance has anyone else got? We will bring someone else in but if they can't keep us in the PL then surely they will also have to go and we are back to square one yet again!!!!!!!! Good luck Billy and thanks for everything.
DPB - North Stand

Having listened to Billy's interview after the match on Saturday and Mr Pearsons comments (26/11/07), I feel Mr Pearson as made the wrong decision in sacking Billy. I also feel I do not trust Mr Pearson. I am a season ticket holder and I feel that if Mr Pearson can not accept Billy's forthright comments and if Mr Pearson feels that this squad of players is good enough to compete in the premier league he is very much mistaken. The fact we have not scored a goal for goodness how long must surely hold testament to that. Billy has done a great job with the tools he as been given. As loyal rams fans we need to know when the cash investment is coming in, or is it like I expect just all talk from Mr Pearson.Perhaps we was crictical of Billy not having a plan for when we was looking like being promoted to the prem, but it would also appear to me Mr Pearson does not have a plan or be able to secure the cash investment this club so desperately needs. What do fans think of boycotting the next home game if there is no manager in place by then. Or should we get behind the team.GOOD LUCK BILLY AND TO ALL YOUR BACK ROOMSTAFF.
Ady (Spondon)

Davies was totally out of hid depth in the prem & some of his team selections this season have bordered on insanity.Who buys a 3.5m striker & Then sits him on the bench week in & week out despite the fact that he is a proven goalscorer in the top flight. He should have been sacked after the west ham game which was easily the worst performance we have had in any game at pride park. The board should break the bank to land Paul Jewell & restore some much need pride back at pride park.
east stander

What an incredible result. Billy was one of the clubs most refreshingly honest managers. A sad day for Rams fans everywhere.
L'boro Ram

It's a sad day for the Rams. After last season Billy should have had the safest job in the premiership. But .. life moves on. I was fortunate enough to see MK Dons play at Chester a couple of weeks ago & believe Paul Ince should be approached to take over at Derby. His team played football - no kick & rush - & he should be managing at a higher level. Go on Derby be brave go for "the guv'nor".
john buck

I'm still a Billy davies fan, but at the end of the day, the rams are rock-bottom and have surrended 4-0+ to a few teams this seasn. Maybe the meeting this morning was not what BD wanted to hear in terms of the money that would be availbale in Jan? Just like to say thankyou to BD for achieveing what he did in the previous season.
Ben Lavender

I don't know if it is the correct decision but you cannot criticise your employer without expecting some kind of reacton, but then is that why Billy did it?
Keith Lowe

I can't believe this! This is just typical of a Derby board. What happened to Billy being the best man to bring us back up? Lets face facts, we didn't spend big, we are bottom. What other manager could have got better results with our players? Sorry, what other manager that would join us? Not happy. What'll happen to the new bloke if we go down?
Matt R

Adam pearson described billy as good manager and will do a great job elsewhere - so why is he going?
Martin, Chesterfield

I'm a season ticket holder and have been to a number of away matches. Davies did a good job getting us promoted, but tactically he's struggled this year. He's also found it difficult to motivate players, not helped by some strange selection decisions. I can take being beaten by a more skillful side, but not being out fought or out run. That's happened in almost every game. We were outplayed on Saturday and out fought until the second half, by then it was too little too late. Still only one up front will not win home games. The problem is, who do we get to replace Davies? None of the names suggested seem better than Davies. Even if we have money to spend who'd want to join us? It looks like we're back in the Championship next season!
Ian (45 years a Ram)

This club continues to drag itself through the mud! Every time we have a sniff of success we do this! Pathetic! Thanks Billy, you deserve better.
Steve, Oakwood

Bring back Steve McClaren and Jim Smith!
Steve, Derby

Very sad about Billy. We knew on Sat when he came round & clapped the fans. BUT I ve supported them for 50 yrs and always will.
Eileen, Derby

Talented young manager..................sacked from Derby............joins rival club 16 miles away...................unprecedented success.....................ring any bells
Borrowash

Shame to see Billy go, thought he had done a fab job for us. But he needed money to invest in the club. Who now will we get to replace him, as far as I can see there is no one of his abillity or better than him. Don't see how this can benifit us in any way and we dont want Mclaren.
Nigel Hart.

If I made statements about my boss that were clearly untrue I'd be sacked as well. Billy did it deliberatly to get out of the Club. I think Pearson has shown he has a backbone and wont take that sort of behaviour. For the First time in years we have the right man in the top seat at the club, I'm sure he will chose the right man to lead the team forward on the pitch.
Andy, Derby

Was Mr. Pearson at Wembley that wonderful afternoon in May? Of course he wasn't, he probably didn't even know that the Rams were playing there - such is his love of our club! You have made yourself very unpopular with a lot of people, Mr. Pearson! I'm sure that you have just made the biggest mistake of your life. Was Mr Gadsby involved in this decision? If not, why not? Thanks, Billy, for everything.
Steve ,Horninglow

Thank you Billy, Derby fans are truly grateful for getting us back into the premiership. You deserved better than this. All the best for your future, we will miss you
Katie B

this is awful news. Billy davies is one of the best managers around and now we will end up being stuck with someone like steve mclaren! he was passionate and the previous chairman tried desperately hard to get him here and now 3 weeks into adam pearson's reign he's given him the sack just because he made some comments on the radio. I agree with billy, adam pearson should have spoken to him several times since he arrived. BIG MISTAKE!!! Thank you billy, you gave me the best day of my life at wembley!
dcfc 4 life

Billy Davies did too well too quickly. Given the amount of investment available we were not ready for premiership football.Billy made one or two poor signings, but that happens with every manager, even the so called `best`.However, they should have performed better!I have not checked premiership records but the rams must have the worst possible, i.e. after 14 matches, least goals scored, ever. most against, least number of points, 10 hours without a goal, no goals scored away.SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE!
dave, swad.

O dear! Yet more unrest at DCFC. You obviously have a clash of personalities between Billy and Mr Pearson and the inevitable has happened. Billy has really become a victim of his own success. Very sad after what Billy has done for us and the fantastic day out at wembley but you do have to question some of the money he was given and wasted on signings like earnshaw, todd and the american Fellhaber?
Maz

Now sack Colin Gibson for his part in the way in which he carried out such a provocative interveiw or transfer him to Nottingham
Roland Walker

I believe the sacking of Davies will be the right decision in the long term, so long as we get the right man. I have been to 80% of games this season and some of displays as Colin Gibson accurately said earlier were not good enough. (The new Manager should be Paul Jewell in my opinion, god no not Steve McClaren, the wally with a brolly!). Sorry to hear the news, but thanks for a brilliant day at Wembley Billy! Commercially the results did not stack up, Pearson had to act now, the excuses for me were wearing thin and he will not suffer fools. The players we have with a few additions down the spine of the team are good enough, they need to be remotivated though!Congratulations on an excellent Radio Station, (Derby County news all day, such passion for potentially a massive club). This would simply not happen in the South-West, despite Bristol being one of the biggest cities in England.Derby, a true footballing city!Keep up the good work!(Derby County seasons ticket holders x3, Bath & North-East Somerset).
John Steele

Well done Billy , you can be proud of what you have achieved at Derby - it's a shame you have been let down by the Board - but hey - that's football in the UK!Good luck Billy you deserve the success that will come to you.

You fools, you fools,. This is the most stupid decision you could ever imagine. Typical Derby County, egos in the boardroom cannot take a back seat and let the team be run. Also Radio Derby, its not as your say on your web page to do with results, results were secondary - ask any TRUE fan. We are in the PL and we were going to build from that.

It's a shame this has all gone "pear shaped" as Billy Davies is one of the best managers Derby has had. Obviously there are other issues involved.
Jan

Totally pathetic. Davies is the best manager at Derby for many years. Sure he brought some poor players like Eddie Lewis and Mo Camara but his passion and determination was a breath of fresh air. Pearson & Co should look long and hard at themselves and questions their future roles within the club.

Im a very agrieved with what has just happened. I feel Billy Davies had a right to say what he said after the Chelsea game because we need serious investment, I would like to wish him the best of luck in the future. For Adam Pearson, he has easily become ememy number 1 and I'm sure there are others who agree. If he wanted to take over Derby, he should of had the funds ready to takeover. I feel we could be going into another ere of miss-management.He never had backing from Pearson because he is too busy trying to bring in money from USA, which he should of got before taking over. Bring back Gadsby, because I believe Pearson will do Damage, like he has done today.

The next Derby Co manager needs to be more responsible - all I ever heard Billy Davies do was cover his own back! He never took resposibility as a manager - it just put more and more pressure onto the players.. Brian Clough was a master psychologist - like mourinio he always got the best from his players... Billy Davies, did not have the ability to do this. Clough was famous for good honest football. He was the boss. If derby are to stay up - and they could - everyone, fans comentators everyone need to be positive, for the sake of the players and the club - if at the end of the season they can say they tried everything then that is all they can do - because of the negativity, I do not believe they have tried everything yet.

Thank you to Billy Davies for an unbelievable journey, thanks for all the hard work in getting us to Premier league against all the odds. Many thanks for that special wembley experience we had in May this year.
Russell Paul, Derby

Its a sad day for Derby County, I think it shows that major funds will not be available in the Jan window. We are still in touching distance and with the effort showed on Saturday I believe we can stay up, All the money spent on recruiting his staff and now the compensation packages which will be paid, does not make sense. I wonder how Peter Gadsby feels? On behalf of every single Derby fan, Thank you for your efforts and getting us into the Prem League and im sorry you have been treated in this way. Some other club are going to get a top manager.. any thoughts for the new boss? Thank you Billy!

Very sad to see Billy go but inevitable after his comments on Saturday. He should be thanked for guiding DFC into the premiership but lately the team seems to have lacked the right leadership and perhaps fresh influence is needed at this time.Well done Billy for getting us there and good luck for the future.
JC of Long Eaton

Billys did a great job in Championship, but it appears we have yet another manager who struggles at the top. Like it or not the non performers that have been picked week in week out were bought in by Billy. Good luck and best wishes fromm all at derby
Mac

Am shocked to hear this! Results haven’t gone our way but we are in advanced of ourselves due to Billy hard work over the past 18 months! You only after look at the dribble we had before Billy came a long! He has consolidated the club! A really nice gesture by the new joker running the Show! Mr Pearson!!!!
LEC

A decent manager, patience and willingness to invest in quality players is the key. Derby have just thrown away their best chance of survival
Peter Forbes

I am truely gutted. Billy has worked miracles on an almost non-existent budget. The Chelsea game shows the fight and character Billy instilled into the players. A sad day for Derby. Pearson is going to be nothing but trouble for us. Haven't we seen this before, pre Gadsby? New Chairmen and Derbys demise. Farewell Billy and thank you for everything. You will always be remembered! A very unhappy Derby Fan
