As a record number of people take part in the Derby 10k and Fun Run this weekend, here's your chance to pass on your good luck messages to the runners. The maximum 2,500 will run the 10k - around 700 people will attempt the Fun Run. BBC Radio Derby's Alex Trelinski will broadcast live from the Derby 10k and Fun Run between 09:00 and 13:00 BST - and there'll be video and photographs of the races here later on Sunday. And if you're running we'd love to get your pictures too! Most mobile phones these days allow you to send pictures to an email address - so take your mobile with you and send your photos to derby@bbc.co.uk Among those taking part in the 10k are: > Kathryn Flemming (running number 15) of Ockbrook School. Kathryn turned 15 years of age two weeks before the event (15 is the minimum age) and is running to fund a trip to Zambia & Botswana - she needs to raise £3000 (to do community work). She'll be running with her mum, Christine (number 1500). > Ian & Matthew Staples (numbers 324 and 410) The father and son team from Swadlincote are running the 10k to help raise money for Ian's sister in law's treatment for breast cancer. She lives in Malta. A family friend will also run with them to raise money. > Andreas Baker (no 413) from Derby Andreas was diagnosed with Chron's Disease at the age of 10. He's now 27 and competed in the Derby 10k last year. He's raising money for National Association for Colitis & Crohn's Disease. > Bill Philips (running no 200) Bill, from Loughborough, is 57 - and this is his 200th 10k run! He started running in 1980. > Run to Russia This is a team of six runners who are raising money for a trip to a Russian orphanage. Their plan is to run enough races to cover 1,500 miles between them (the approximate mileage to Russia). They're all based in South Derbyshire and have no experience in running! > Birds from Ripley This is a team of 16 - running for Edward Bright, the – seven-year-old who lost limbs to meningitis. > Richard Pettinger (no 109) Richard only has himself to blame for his predicament as he promised to run the 10k after drinking too much mulled wine. Unfortunately, he ruptured his cruiciate ligament whilst training and so has been given special permission to compete on a scooter! Richard is raising money for Brain Tumour UK in memory of his sister-in-law who died last year. > The Newly Weds! (2109 and 2110) Michael and Rebecca Ward have just got married in the Dominican Republic and are due to arrive back in the UK three days before the race! Rebecca is also taking part in a team challenge with her fellow MacMillan nurses. > BBC Radio Derby Yes, our colleagues are making fools of themselves again! Look out for (and please cheer on)... Colin Bloomfield (News & Sport producer) - number 953 Nick Willmot (East Staffordshire Reporter) - number 1045 Simon Hare (BBC East Midlands Today) - number 1116 Claire Adams (Programme Assistant) - number 96 Among those taking part in the Fun Run are: > Samuel Frearson & Family Sam raised the most money last year for Sporting Futures in the children’s category for the Fun Run - he's just six years old! He is running again this year with his dad, Ian, - his mum, Cindy, is running in the 10k. Sam will be wearing number 5030. > The Derbyshire Royal Iinfirmary Stroke Unit This team is pushing a wheelchair around the Fun Run course. > Nigel Clough (no 5157) Nigel (yes, the Burton Albion manager) is the Patron of Sporting Futures. He's running with his wife, Margaret, and two children, Helena and William. > The Gaughan Family Kieran, 11 and younger sisters Bethany and Rachel (twins) plus mum Susan from Long Eaton are running for Cancer research in memory of their grandfather/father. And no fewer than SIX sets of twins: Bethany and Rachael Gaughan, aged 12 Daniel and Steven Lee, aged 11 Joshua and Dale Hibbert, aged 7 Benedict and Fraser Brown, aged 12 Shaun and Steffan Loydall, aged 14 Alistair and Ellie Tipping, aged 7 Good Luck to all the runners this weekend! |
