Match Reports

Wind helps Sinfin blow Chellaston away

On a blustery morning, third-placed Chellaston Boys travelled to Moorways to take on fifth-placed Sinfin Sharks; it was a match that could see Sinfin move ahead of Chellaston in the league table.

Derby City League - Under 12s (Sunday) | 3rd December 2006

Sinfin Sharks 4 - 1 - Chellaston Boys

Sinfin were unchanged and after losing the toss, knew they were in for a tough first half, playing up the slope with the wind blowing strongly.

Straight from the kick off Sinfin won the ball and forced an early corner which Chellaston eventually cleared.

In the early stages the ball was kept in the Sinfin half for long periods and Jake in goal for the Sharks had to be alert after eight minutes when he cleared from the edge of his box.

A minute later and Chellaston had sight of the Sinfin goal but a magnificent block from Akeem cleared the danger.

After 13 minutes Jake cleared from the edge of his box again before on the quarter hour mark Chellaston had their first shot at goal which Jake pushed around the post for a corner which came to nothing.

Sinfin were spending plenty of time defending but 20 minutes were on the clock when the next Chellaston shot went just wide of goal.

Two minutes before the interval Chellaston finally made their territorial advantage pay when they took the lead. A speculative shot was heading for Jake's arms but a Chellaston head diverted the ball past the stranded goalkeeper.

Sharks responded well and went on their own attack but Richard's route to goal was well blocked leaving the half time score: Sinfin 0 Chellaston 1.

The second half slope advantage was now Sinfin's and they were quite happy to turn around just one goal behind. They made one change with Joshpal replacing George in midfield, due to an ankle injury.

On 36 minutes a lovely Sinfin move ended with Richard slotting the ball home but unfortunately the flag was up for a tight offside decision.

Sinfin were now camped in the Chellaston half and the pressure was mounting when Kyle had a decent shot tipped wide.

A minute later and sharks may well have been awarded a penalty for handball but the offence took place on the blind side of the referee.

The equaliser finally arrived in the 44th minute when excellent work from Thomas won the ball for Sinfin on the right and a clever ball from Elliott found JORDAN who found the top corner of the net with a sublime shot.

This goal gave Sinfin belief and they took a 2-1 lead when a crafty short corner found its way to Elliott whose brilliant cross fell to REECE who competently found the net from close range.

Elliott was exploiting the conditions well for Sinfin and in the 54th minute he had another good long shot well saved again.

Five minutes from time Sinfin won a free kick out on the left hand side which Akeem floated into the Chellaston six-yard box and the ensuing scramble ended with the Chellaston keeper saving with his feet.

Elliott then played another good long ball into the Chellaston box which again was scrambled clear and as Chellaston were running the ball away from goal a needless late challenge from Kyle saw him very lucky to escape without a yellow card.

Adam who was hurt in a tough challenge was now replaced by Ranveer.

Three minutes from time saw Sinfin two goals clear at 3-1 when a good block from Thomas rolled underneath the Chellaston keeper and from 1 yard out Richard tapped the ball into the empty net.

In the 59th minute sharks scored their fourth goal when another brilliant ball from Elliott found Reece who finished excellently to the top left hand corner for his 2nd goal of the game.

This was a very good performance from Sinfin who battled against the elements in the first half before dominating the second half to finish with a very important and thoroughly deserved  three points.

The whole team performed well but for his brilliant overall performance, including a crucial tackle to set up the all important fist goal, the man of the match award was given to Thomas.
