Ripley gets its folk club back

By Ted Bunt
After a long absence, Ripley is to get its folk club back - and at a familiar venue. Folk at the Dev is coming soon!

Ripley Folk Club
Description:Folk at the Dev is held monthly and features guests and open mic sessions.
Organisation Type:Non profit
Address:Devonshire Arms, Buckland Hollow
Ripley
Telephone:01773 742661
Contact Name:Ted Bunt

The Devonshire Arms at Buckland Hollow in Ripley is again to host folk and acoustic evenings, to be known as Folk At The Dev.

As many people will remember, this was the venue of an earlier Folk Club run by The Wayfarers and if this new one is half as successful as that, it will be good news!

The Feredays
First night: The Feredays

The pub has had a recent change of landlord who is very keen to promote music of all kinds and is a bit of a folk singer himself!

The opening night will be on Wednesday 5th April and thereafter every four weeks.

A host of local talent is set to get the club started with a cracking first night.

Among those appearing are:

  • Eranim are Georgie and Jed, an acoustic duo with a whole range of musical styles and taste, joined by Rhys who plays a mean Harmonica. Hopefully, if we can persuade them, they will be the resident band.
  • The Feredays - guitar virtuoso Ben Hanson and twin sisters Kate and Rachel Fereday with a repertoire that has something for everyone and close harmony vocals to die for.
  • Jack Hudson, what can you say about Jack?....Been there, done that, got the t-shirt! Excellent singer/guitarist who makes the songs his own.
  • Flying by Night - a local band who mix contemporary with traditional and who are very popular.
  • Ruth Nutman - a rising star. At a very young age she is rapidly gaining a reputation as a varied and mature performer.
  • Dominc Paris - he's been around the Derby Scene for years, not necessarily as a performer, but his name will be known as a ragtime/blues guitarist by those in the know.

All this and floor singers too (Open Mic) should make for an excellent evening's entertainment.
