A Derby City General Hospital labour ward is the setting for a new BBC Three documentary. The three episodes explores childbirth from the perspective of the midwives. You'll meet Trudy, Derby City Hospital's midwife co-ordinator, who has her work cut out managing a busy shift with too many mums and not enough midwives. You'll meet community midwife Shirley Ann who's determined to have her baby at home. And you'll meet community midwife Jane who works with expectant mums outside of the hospital and is passionate about natural and home birth. The makers of the documentary say Desperate Midwives is an unflinching portrayal of the blood, sweat and tears of labour; including never-seen-before footage of epidurals, C-section operations, and the actual moment of birth. Desperate Midwives is a three part series on BBC Three (Monday, 23rd May at 21:00 - Wednesday, 25th May at 23:05 - Thursday, 26th May at 22:30).
