Come On You Rams

Lee Camp
Lee Camp

Player profiles: Lee Camp

Derby County goalie Lee Camp reveals all about his Championship Manager addiction, his interest in the property market and which fellow Ram is funny in 'a roundabout way'.

Do you get much time off from football?

Not really. Obviously with the games and the training, Sunday's your main day off and sometimes Wednesday, depending on what's happening. During the season it's very hectic.

So what do you do on Sundays? Are you a golfer?

Nah I'm usually lying in bed or watching Goals on Sunday, seeing what Mr Kamara's got to say on the latest happenings.

What are your hobbies?

I'm quite addicted to Championship Manager on the PC. I can't seem to put it down when I'm at home. That's probably the main thing that I do. I still play on the 2001/02 version, the new format's a bit confusing so I stick to the simple, easy one!

What music do you listen to?

Anything really. I've just started getting into a bit of rock 'n' roll. Tracey Smith who used to be a masseur here is big on rock 'n' roll so she got me into the Chilli Peppers and a few of the boys have got involved as well. And I'm just getting into the motown and soul stuff from the 50s, 60s and 70s. My Auntie Val lent me some stuff.

So who are the main music guys at Derby County?

Lee Grant does a few CDs for me every now and then. He's a bit of a DJ - well he seems to think he's a bit of a DJ anyway so we let him put Cds together for the changing room. We just humour him.

What car do you drive?

I've got a Mercedes C-Class. It's nice. But to be honest, I'm not massively into cars - I like making money rather than losing it so I'm quite interested in houses and property abroad at the moment.

So do you take care that your future is sorted financially?

Of course. If anyone turns round and says they're not then they need to see a financial advisor. Obviously I want as long a career as possible and play at the highest level I can get to but at the end of the day, they'll one day be a family to support and if you finish at 35 then that's a long time to support yourself for.

Do you think in terms of a career after football?

I've got a few things I've got in mind that I'd like to do if I wasn't financially secure after football but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

What sort of films do you like?

I quite like war movies like We Were Soldiers and Saving Private Ryan. I'm quite interested in the wars and what went on then. I like sport movies like the Rocky movies - and also things like Grease.

Any favourite actors?

I like Hugh Grant and Jude Law - the British based actors. Oh and anything that involves Jennifer Aniston is good.

Who are the characters at Derby County?

We've got a few. Marco Reich is funny in a roundabout sort of way. He's so forthright and says exactly what he thinks - he's quite funny with it. Inigo's come in with his Spanish stroll and he's quite laid back which is funny. Pesch is good around the changing room.

Johnno wears bad gear so there's usually a bit of banter flying around his way. There's a few here who are supposed to wear bad gear and I'm one of them but I strongly dispute it.

Dan Derby
Campy great season so far. A couple of great safes against Wigan in the cup.

Tom, Derby
Camp, mate... You've got to stay. After your recent performances, I've made up my mind that you're deservedly Derbys' No.1

Champ Addict, Champland
I`m with Campy - Champ 01/02 is much simpler and quicker! I bet you edit yourself in the game and make yourself England`s no. 1 eh Campy?

MB
My brother-in-law used to play with Camp when he was at Mickleover - said he was a great guy. He was an up and coming star too and was their highest scoring striker and was watched on a few occasions...except his mum made him quit because it was to much hassle - guess he could have been the next Rams striker if things had been a little different
