the Dukes of Rutland once owned much of the land here

Ilkeston is in the Erewash valley in Derbyshire, close to the border
with Nottinghamshire.

iron industry.

in the Domesday Book as Tilchestune.

Ilkeston has a weekly market on Thursday and Friday plus an annual
three day charter fair, which is believed to be one of the largest
street fairs in the country.
St. Mary’s Church dates from about the year 1200. There is an effigy
in the church of a knight, presumed to be Nicholas de Cantelupe.
The Cantelupes were lords of the manor in 13th Century.
The American Adventure theme park is located just outside Ilkeston.
