Short debate: MRI scans
North Wales AM Llŷr Huws Gruffydd called for early scanning of high risk young women for breast cancer on 27 February 2013.
50-70 year old women are already being screened every three years as most women develop the cancer at a later age.
But Mr Gruffydd said that yearly screening for younger women who have a hereditary defective gene and therefore more likely to develop breast cancer should also be screened.
He said that approximately 300 women need the service, 50 for each Welsh health authority.
A pilot scheme is currently running at a cost of £50,000 annually.
Health Minister Lesley Griffiths said she would act on the recommendation of the pilot scheme's report, but acknowledged the value of early screening for some women.
