Equal Opportunities committee

The Equal Opportunities Committee took evidence on the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill.

The bill aims to revise the law to allow same-sex marriage, while protecting rights of religious groups not to carry out ceremonies.

MSPs questioned John Brown from the Scottish Catholic Education Service; Michael Calwell from the Family Education Trust; Ruth Hunt from Stonewell/Stonewall Scotland; Chief Superintendent Grant Manders from Police Scotland; Stephen McCrossan from the Educational Institute of Scotland; Rev. Blair Robertson from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Cara Spence from the LGBT Scotland/Challenging Homophobia Together Schools Project.

The evidence session focussed on the potential impact of the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill in schools.
