The Equal Opportunities Committee took evidence on the Marriage and Civil Partnership Bill on 5 September 2013.

In the second evidence session MSPs questioned Dr Salah Beltagui from the Muslim Council of Scotland; Dr David Easton from the Methodist Church in Britain; John Deighan from the Bishop's Conference of Scotland and Keiran Turner from the Evangelical Alliance Scotland.

The legislation provides for the introduction of same-sex marriage and the religious and belief registration of civil partnerships.

The proposals also aim to protect the rights of religious celebrants and groups who are opposed to allowing gay couples to wed.
