Cadets and veterans debate World War One's legacy

The House of Lords hosted a special debate on the legacy of World War One on 29 November 2013.

Cadets and veterans participated in the debate, organised in partnership with the Royal British Legion and the English Speaking Union.

The debate was chaired by the Lord Speaker, Baroness D'Souza.

There were three themes for debate on the question of World War One's legacy.

  • The UK is now a more globally responsible nation
  • Society is more aware of the impact of war
  • The UK has not learned from its experience
