Adjournment debate

Conservative MP Bob Neill has led a debate on the supermarket Lidl purchasing land that includes a pub in Mottingham in his constituency.

Mr Neill accused the Porcupine pub's owners, Enterprise Inns, of selling the pub to Lidl without notifying the public.

Mr Neill is seeking to list the pub as an asset of community value, allowing campaigners to bid for the site if the pub was put up for sale.

Communities and Local Government Minister Brandon Lewis said he could not comment on individual planning decisions, but that listing a venue as a community asset was "a simple, light-touch and effective" way for local residents to have a say.
