The town of Windermere was created with the building of the railway line from Kendal in 1847.
This made England’s longest lake an easily accessible resort and a new tourist destination.
Most of the guest houses and amenities built for the Victorians still stand.
Windermere, the stretch of water, is around 14 miles long and has been used for a number of water speed record attempts.
