TAKEN
ON THE CORNER OF EARLE STREET AND FERRY ROAD ON BARROW ISLAND, A
SIGN FIXED TO THE WALL BY HARTLEY'S BREWERY ADVERTISING THE ROSE
AND CROWN PUB IN ULVERSTON , AND BELOW IT THE FAINT REMAINS OF '
FAIRBAIRNS STORES ' PAINTED ON THE WALL. I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF
WHERE THE ACTUAL SHOP WAS , BUT I ASSUME IT MAY EVEN HAVE BEEN IN
EARLE STREET , AND LIKE MANY CORNER SHOPS, BECAME YET ANOTHER VICTIM
OF SUPERMARKETS.
