and I are looking pleased because we've just found the (ahem) carved
phallus on the wall near Birdoswald! Heh-hey! It's just near my
right shoulder. (Photo of me giving it a good rub not included.)
The
Romans often carved one of these into their building - they are
a fertility symbol and were thought to bring good luck.
