Here is what BBC Shop has to say about both series.

The Lakes

From the writer of Cracker and Priest, comes The Lakes.

Lovable rogue Danny Kavanah pushes his long suffering parents over the edge when he loses all his social security money on a horse race.

Locked out of the family home, Danny decides on a fresh start and escapes the dole queues of Liverpool to the unspoiled beauty of the Lake District.

But the story has only just begun. A dingy high-rise in Liverpool, a schoolgirl called Lucy and a tragedy at the boating lake all affect Danny's fate.

The Lakes 2

A village already driven apart by suspicion, deception and guilt must struggle to come to terms with the tragic death of three of its children.

At the centre of the drama is Danny Kavanagh, not having to provide for his wife Emma and baby whilst enduring the claustrophobic hostility of the Quinlan family home. When Danny becomes entangled in the defence of Lucy - the victim of a shocking sexual assault - it seems events will undermine these good intentions.

Meanwhile, the illicit relationship between Mrs Quinlan and Father Matthew threatens to shatter her family; Headmaster John Fisher exacts hideous revenge on his wife for her infidelity and Chef embarks on a campaign of predatory promiscuity in the cause of uncovering the identity of his hit-and-run attacker.

Behind the tranquil beauty of its lakeside setting lies a quagmire of seething emotion in Jimmy McGovern's daring drama of sex, guilt, addiction and murder.
