The Overspill Poets

South Lakes based recording artists and fast growing MySpace favourites, Overspill Poets release their debut album, Thompson Falls on 19th October 2009 through their own Revenge Western label.

Formed from the ashes of Hug who released three e.p.s and an album on Kitchenware in the 90's and were hotly tipped by the NME, Radio 1 and Mark Radcliffe, Overspill Poets head out in a new direction, blending driving alternative rock and alt country guitar jangle with vocals that root them firmly in the North of England. It’s a sound that’s been described as “Bob Mould crashing into REM on Johnny Cash's iPod” ...and labelled “Ultimate Driving Music”.

Overspill Poets

Following Hug’s demise, guitarist George Kitching moved to the South Lakes and began recording with vocalist Tim Taylor. Adopting the name Overspill Poets, the pair launched a MySpace page in November 2008 and have already gained over 7500 friends and over 16,000 plays. They regularly top the Reverbnation local alternative chart and frequently make the top 50 in the Reverbnation national alternative chart.

The fruits of their recording evolved into their debut album, Thompson Falls. Inspired by a chance visit to the Idaho town of the same name, the title track tells the story of a girl who, despite her big ambitions, fails to escape her home town, becoming  weighed down with other peoples’ expectations. Learning to hide her dreams in shadows on the wall, she absent-mindedly hangs the shopping on the line while her trailer, her "ticket out", is left to rust on bricks in the yard. Bookending the other end of the album is Tomorrow When You Leave with lyrics borrowed from the 17th Century Metaphysical (and original Overspill) poet, John Donne.

Overspill Poets

Overspill Poets set up their own label, Revenge Western Records to release Thompson Falls, which comes out on October 19th 2009. A UK distribution deal with Genepool / Universal Music Operations ensures the CD will be available nationwide through HMV, Amazon and all good independent record shops. The album will be on sale in the USA via CD Baby and available to download worldwide via iTunes, Amazon MP3, 7Digital, eMusic, Ditto, Spotify, Napster and many, many more.
