You may think you know Copeland very well but a group of photographers are aiming to show that there are some surprising hidden aspects of the borough you haven't noticed yet.

Secret Copeland is a photographic exhibition running at The Beacon (9th May to 4th July) revealing parts of the area you've probably not noticed before or common scenes pictured in new and original ways.

The exhibition features the work of Whitehaven Snappers, an online photographic group started by The Whitehaven News.
Exhibition co-ordinator Alan Cleaver said: "The exhibition will feature the likes of the Japanese Garden at Eskdale and the stone circle at Swinside - features that even people who have lived in Copeland for many years are not aware exist or have never visited.

"But it will also feature pictures of more common scenes such as Whitehaven Harbour and St Bees Beach but photographed in unusual ways forcing you to look again at places you thought you knew very well."

Whitehaven Snappers was formed ten years ago for amateur photographers in the West Cumbria area. They meet online at flickr.com and also occasionally in the real world too!

The exhibition is showing in The Beacon’s Harbour Gallery and is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4.30pm.  Entry to The Harbour Gallery is free.
