Why isn't BBC Radio Cumbria available via digital radio?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions at BBC Radio Cumbria ... so what's the answer?

The BBC's local radio stations are broadcast on muliplexes run by commercial operators and licensed by OFCOM.

The BBC is allocated capacity for its local radio services on these local multiplexes when they are launched.

So the BBC is only able to make a local radio service available on DAB when a local multiplex has been established and, at present, there is no local multiplex available on which to broadcast Radio Cumbria.

Listeners wishing to find out more about local multiplexes in their area should contact OFCOM.
