Organised to coincide with the annual Potfest-in-the-Park at Hutton-in-the Forest and Potfest-in-the-Pens in Penrith, its will be the first time an event of its kind has been staged in Carlisle.

Geoff Cox, Potfest organiser said:
"The Carlisle event will set the stage for Potfest. With some of the potters travelling thousands of miles to show their work it seemed opportune to use their expertise to create city centre attractions in the future."

Since it started in 1994, Potfest Penrith has grown into a major international ceramics festival and is now recognised as one of the premier events of its kind in Europe.

Held each year at Skirsgill and Hutton-in-the-Forest it attracts an audience of around 10,000 with visitors coming from far and wide to see the work of over 200 potters from all over the UK, mainland Europe and beyond.

This year potters from Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia and Japan will be at Potfest too.
