A lucky break

A broken ankle and trip to an art exhibition gives Linda a chance meeting with one of the greatest modern sculptors ...

What's your story about?

The story is about a chance meeting with Josefina de Vasconcellos, renowned sculptor & painter. At the time of meeting in 1990 she lived in Ambleside & was a member of The Lake Artists Society.
Whilst admiring her work we were introduced to her & were soon deep in conversation .
After we said we lived in Carlisle she told us that she had a commission for three figures for Carlisle Cathedral & invited us to visit her in her studio

During the visit we admired several works & finally bought the small sculpture which  she had on the garden balcony. We have this work on the window sill overlooking our  garden & live with it every day.

Why did you choose to tell this particular story?

Josefina died in 2005 aged almost 101 & there were many articles about her & her work in the press. This brought back many happy memories  of our chance meeting in 1990.

What was the experience of making your digital story like?

What can I say?? Fun, frustrating, very hard work, informative.

All our instructors, helpers etc were very patient with someone with only basic computer skills.
Overall a very worthwhile & enjoyable experience & yes, I would do it again!
